44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, James J. Crouch of El Paso is retiring in January
66 2010, drawing to a close an outstanding career in the air defense
77 industry that has spanned more than six decades; and
88 WHEREAS, Mr. Crouch studied at Howard University, and after
99 completing basic training for the United States Army, he was
1010 stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma in 1945; on conclusion of his
1111 service in the Korean War, he began studying missile systems; and
1212 WHEREAS, In the 1950s, when Mr. Crouch became involved in air
1313 defense artillery, the field was one of the most technical and
1414 cutting-edge branches of the military, and the first missiles had
1515 just been deployed to counter the threat of jet fighters and
1616 bombers; Mr. Crouch seized the opportunity to learn all he could
1717 about this new industry, taking courses on the Ajax missile, the
1818 Nike Hercules system, and the Hawk missile system, and he went on to
1919 serve as an instructor; he also worked on crews in Germany and
2020 Florida, where he tracked aircraft en route from Cuba, before
2121 retiring in 1974 as ADA chief warrant officer 4 and accepting a
2222 civilian position as a software programmer; and
2323 WHEREAS, Later returning to the military sector, Mr. Crouch
2424 has served as the deputy director of training instruction for the
2525 Air Defense Artillery Center and School at Fort Bliss since 1991; he
2626 has been named among the "front four" individuals in the nation's
2727 air defense artillery branch, and he received a special tribute in
2828 2009 from Major General Howard Bromberg, the Fort Bliss commander;
2929 and
3030 WHEREAS, Over the course of 64 years in air defense as both a
3131 soldier and a civilian, James Crouch has distinguished himself with
3232 the utmost dedication and perseverance, and he may indeed reflect
3333 with great pride on his many notable achievements and
3434 contributions; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3636 Legislature hereby honor James J. Crouch on his exemplary service
3737 to his country and to the air defense industry and extend to him
3838 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
3939 further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for Mr. Crouch as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4242 House of Representatives.
