5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, James J. Crouch of El Paso is retiring in January |
---|
6 | 6 | | 2010, drawing to a close an outstanding career in the air defense |
---|
7 | 7 | | industry that has spanned more than six decades; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Crouch studied at Howard University, and after |
---|
9 | 9 | | completing basic training for the United States Army, he was |
---|
10 | 10 | | stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma in 1945; on conclusion of his |
---|
11 | 11 | | service in the Korean War, he began studying missile systems; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In the 1950s, when Mr. Crouch became involved in air |
---|
13 | 13 | | defense artillery, the field was one of the most technical and |
---|
14 | 14 | | cutting-edge branches of the military, and the first missiles had |
---|
15 | 15 | | just been deployed to counter the threat of jet fighters and |
---|
16 | 16 | | bombers; Mr. Crouch seized the opportunity to learn all he could |
---|
17 | 17 | | about this new industry, taking courses on the Ajax missile, the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Nike Hercules system, and the Hawk missile system, and he went on to |
---|
19 | 19 | | serve as an instructor; he also worked on crews in Germany and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Florida, where he tracked aircraft en route from Cuba, before |
---|
21 | 21 | | retiring in 1974 as ADA chief warrant officer 4 and accepting a |
---|
22 | 22 | | civilian position as a software programmer; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Later returning to the military sector, Mr. Crouch |
---|
24 | 24 | | has served as the deputy director of training instruction for the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Air Defense Artillery Center and School at Fort Bliss since 1991; he |
---|
26 | 26 | | has been named among the "front four" individuals in the nation's |
---|
27 | 27 | | air defense artillery branch, and he received a special tribute in |
---|
28 | 28 | | 2009 from Major General Howard Bromberg, the Fort Bliss commander; |
---|
29 | 29 | | and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of 64 years in air defense as both a |
---|
31 | 31 | | soldier and a civilian, James Crouch has distinguished himself with |
---|
32 | 32 | | the utmost dedication and perseverance, and he may indeed reflect |
---|
33 | 33 | | with great pride on his many notable achievements and |
---|
34 | 34 | | contributions; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby honor James J. Crouch on his exemplary service |
---|
37 | 37 | | to his country and to the air defense industry and extend to him |
---|
38 | 38 | | sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it |
