5	5	WHEREAS, The city of Garland has greatly benefited from the
6	6	dedicated leadership of the Honorable Ronald E. Jones since he was
7	7	elected mayor in 2007; and
8	8	WHEREAS, During his tenure in municipal government, Mayor
9	9	Jones has ably guided the city with an eye to the future, and his
10	10	knowledge and expertise in a wide range of community issues have
11	11	earned him the respect of many people along the way; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Born and raised in Dallas, he earned a bachelor's
13	13	degree from Dallas Baptist University and a master's degree in
14	14	human relations and business management from Abilene Christian
15	15	University; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Mayor Jones has nearly three decades of public
17	17	service experience, including five years as Garland's assistant
18	18	city manager, and he oversaw more than 14 departments during his
19	19	notable tenure; after his retirement from that office in May 2005,
20	20	he served as management consultant to the city manager, a position
21	21	in which he helped establish a relief center for the victims of
22	22	Hurricane Katrina; and
23	23	WHEREAS, His career has also included service as
24	24	parliamentarian to the mayor and city council and as an adjunct
25	25	professor of business at El Centro College; he is a member of the
26	26	National Association of Parliamentarians, a certified mediator,
27	27	temperament counselor, and associate pastor at New Hope Baptist
28	28	Church, where he leads the counseling ministry; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Mayor Jones has further contributed to the community
30	30	through his work with the Kiwanis Club, Garland Citizen Police
31	31	Academy Alumni Association, Garland Asian American Task Force,
32	32	Garland Association for Hispanic Affairs, Luna Elementary School
33	33	Campus Improvement Team, and Garland Landmark Society; in addition,
34	34	he has been a board member of the Regional Transportation Council,
35	35	Garland Civic Theatre, the Achievement Center of Texas, New
36	36	Beginning Center, and the North Texas Commission, and he chaired
37	37	the North Texas Commission Leadership North Texas Selection
38	38	Committee; and
39	39	WHEREAS, Each day, public servants improve the quality of
40	40	life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and the efforts
41	41	of Ronald Jones are helping to make Garland an even better place in
42	42	which to live and work; now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
44	44	Legislature hereby honor Mayor Ronald E. Jones for his committed
45	45	public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
46	46	success; and, be it further
47	47	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
48	48	prepared for Mayor Jones as an expression of high regard by the
49	49	Texas House of Representatives.
