44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Residents of Brazoria County lost a dedicated
66 citizen and a cherished friend with the passing of Barbara Gene Ross
77 of Angleton on February 10, 2008, at the age of 70; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Alvin to William and Bertha Mienke on
99 September 12, 1937, Barbara Gene Ross grew up on a farm; she went on
1010 to marry Gardner Ross, with whom she nurtured a fulfilling
1111 relationship and raised a family; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross loved gardening and was knowledgeable
1313 about nearly every local plant species; she served as the president
1414 of the Brazoria County Master Gardeners Association and led the
1515 group's public endeavors, turning an old property into a showcase
1616 for gardens and planting vineyards and orchards; the stunning
1717 blooms that surrounded her home earned her numerous beautification
1818 awards, and her work remains visible today at the county
1919 fairgrounds, the extension center grounds, and the homes of the
2020 many gardeners she mentored and encouraged; and
2121 WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross was also active in the Republican party as
2222 a precinct chair, election judge, and board member for the
2323 Tri-County Republican Women, and she inspired others to become
2424 similarly involved in politics; she was known for expressing her
2525 opinions and taking charge, and she was always willing to assist the
2626 organization in any way she could; she supported Republican
2727 candidates, volunteered her time during elections, ran area
2828 headquarter sites, and even helped another party by filling in for
2929 their election judge who became ill at the polling place; with
3030 determination, strength, and a firm belief in the political
3131 process, she made lasting contributions to the Republican party in
3232 Brazoria County; and
3333 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan enhanced the lives of many with
3434 her kindness, generosity, and delightfully wicked sense of humor,
3535 and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who
3636 were privileged to share in her love and friendship; now,
3737 therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3939 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Gene Ross
4040 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
4141 sons, Charles Ross and his wife, Cynthia, and Michael G. Ross and
4242 his wife, Theresa; to her grandchildren, Zachary, Gabriella, Jade,
4343 Michael, and Sandy Ross, Amy Brunson, and Brandi Hasting; to her
4444 sister, Penny Anderson, and her husband, Ronel; and to her other
4545 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Barbara
4949 Gene Ross.
