5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Brazoria County lost a dedicated |

6 | 6 | | citizen and a cherished friend with the passing of Barbara Gene Ross |
---|
7 | 7 | | of Angleton on February 10, 2008, at the age of 70; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Alvin to William and Bertha Mienke on |
---|
9 | 9 | | September 12, 1937, Barbara Gene Ross grew up on a farm; she went on |
---|
10 | 10 | | to marry Gardner Ross, with whom she nurtured a fulfilling |
---|
11 | 11 | | relationship and raised a family; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross loved gardening and was knowledgeable |
---|
13 | 13 | | about nearly every local plant species; she served as the president |
---|
14 | 14 | | of the Brazoria County Master Gardeners Association and led the |
---|
15 | 15 | | group's public endeavors, turning an old property into a showcase |
---|
16 | 16 | | for gardens and planting vineyards and orchards; the stunning |
---|
17 | 17 | | blooms that surrounded her home earned her numerous beautification |
---|
18 | 18 | | awards, and her work remains visible today at the county |
---|
19 | 19 | | fairgrounds, the extension center grounds, and the homes of the |
---|
20 | 20 | | many gardeners she mentored and encouraged; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross was also active in the Republican party as |
---|
22 | 22 | | a precinct chair, election judge, and board member for the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Tri-County Republican Women, and she inspired others to become |
---|
24 | 24 | | similarly involved in politics; she was known for expressing her |
---|
25 | 25 | | opinions and taking charge, and she was always willing to assist the |
---|
26 | 26 | | organization in any way she could; she supported Republican |
---|
27 | 27 | | candidates, volunteered her time during elections, ran area |
---|
28 | 28 | | headquarter sites, and even helped another party by filling in for |
---|
29 | 29 | | their election judge who became ill at the polling place; with |
---|
30 | 30 | | determination, strength, and a firm belief in the political |
---|
31 | 31 | | process, she made lasting contributions to the Republican party in |
---|
32 | 32 | | Brazoria County; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan enhanced the lives of many with |
---|
34 | 34 | | her kindness, generosity, and delightfully wicked sense of humor, |
---|
35 | 35 | | and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who |
---|
36 | 36 | | were privileged to share in her love and friendship; now, |
---|
37 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Gene Ross |

40 | 40 | | and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her |

41 | 41 | | sons, Charles Ross and his wife, Cynthia, and Michael G. Ross and |
---|
42 | 42 | | his wife, Theresa; to her grandchildren, Zachary, Gabriella, Jade, |

43 | 43 | | Michael, and Sandy Ross, Amy Brunson, and Brandi Hasting; to her |

44 | 44 | | sister, Penny Anderson, and her husband, Ronel; and to her other |
