| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Lamar Beckworth of Austin has been named |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | interim director of the Texas Department of Public Safety; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Excelling throughout his notable 31-year tenure |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | with the agency, Colonel Beckworth first joined DPS as a trooper in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Irving, where he administered driver's license examinations; he |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | went on to serve as a highway patrol trooper in Kilgore before being |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | promoted to the rank of highway patrol sergeant in Brownfield; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Following two years as a highway patrol lieutenant |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in Garland, he earned the position of major in 1993, and served as |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | regional commander in Lubbock for nearly a decade; recognized for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | his commitment and professionalism, he was promoted to assistant |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | chief in 2002, and six years later he was named lieutenant colonel |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and interim assistant director of DPS; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Beckworth brings a wealth of experience, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | knowledge, and dedication to the office of interim director; over |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the course of his outstanding career, he has exemplified the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | highest ideals of the law enforcement profession and contributed |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | immeasurably to the safety of his fellow Texans, and it is a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | pleasure to recognize him for his latest achievement; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Lamar Beckworth on his |

| 27 | 27 | | appointment as interim director of the Texas Department of Public |

| 28 | 28 | | Safety and commend him for his decades of service in behalf of |
