| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, David Murguia of El Paso is graduating from |

| 6 | 6 | | Cathedral High School in 2009, and his outstanding academic efforts |

| 7 | 7 | | have earned him an extraordinary $1.1 million in scholarship |

| 8 | 8 | | offers; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of proud parents Blanca and Roberto Murguia, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Mr. Murguia was courted by a number of top institutions, including |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | The University of Texas at Austin, Rice University, the University |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business, Princeton, Columbia, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and Cornell; he plans to attend Stanford University, and after |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | earning his bachelor's degree, he hopes to pursue graduate studies |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and start his own business; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Murguia has excelled not only in his scholastic |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | endeavors, but also as a member of Cathedral High School's state |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | championship swim team, distinguishing himself as part of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | team's winning 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay; in addition, he has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | participated in drama, shared his time with a number of charitable |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | groups, and contributed to the local chamber of commerce, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Hispanic Leadership Institute, and LaSallian Youth Organization, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | which he has served as vice president; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Standing on the threshold of what will undoubtedly |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | be a bright and rewarding future, David Murguia may take |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | justifiable pride in his achievements and look forward with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | anticipation and optimism to the challenges and opportunities that |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | lie ahead; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
