55 WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss
66 of U.S. Army Specialist Kamisha Jane Block of Vidor, who died on
77 August 16, 2007, at the age of 20, while serving in Iraq; and
88 WHEREAS, The daughter of Jane and Jerry Block, Kamisha Block
99 was born in Vidor, where she won many friends with her kindness and
1010 her outgoing personality; a valued member of Eastgate United
1111 Pentecostal Church and a model student, she motivated her friends
1212 to strive toward academic success as well; and
1313 WHEREAS, Specialist Block dreamed of a career in law
1414 enforcement; diligent and goal-oriented, she held babysitting jobs
1515 and began working at a restaurant before graduating from Vidor High
1616 School in 2005; in July of that year, she joined the army and served
1717 proudly as a military police officer; and
1818 WHEREAS, Before her deployment to Iraq, Specialist Block was
1919 stationed in Korea, and in January 2007, she was assigned to the
2020 401st Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion,
2121 89th Military Police Brigade, based at Fort Hood; dedicated and
2222 brave, she was affectionately known as "Wonder Woman" by her fellow
2323 soldiers; her radiant smile and irrepressible humor brightened
2424 difficult days, while her readiness to help others benefited many
2525 fellow soldiers; her numerous decorations included the Bronze Star,
2626 the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, and the
2727 Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and
2828 WHEREAS, Kamisha Block exemplified the highest ideals of the
2929 U.S. armed forces; although her passing has left a void in the lives
3030 of those who were fortunate enough to know her, they will forever
3131 treasure their memories of this remarkable young woman; now,
3232 therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
3535 Kamisha Jane Block and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her
3636 family: to her parents, Jerry and Jane Block; to her sister, Shonta
3737 Godeaux; to her grandmother, Gertrude Stuckey; to her aunts and
3838 uncles, Steve and Gayle Stuckey, Mary Vella, John and Jackie
3939 Stuckey, Kathey and Floyd Byerley, Arlene and Doug Conn, Darlene
4040 and Ray Gills, Wayne and Joy Stuckey, and Terry and Hope Stuckey; to
4141 her nephew, Hyden Godeaux; and to her other relatives and many
4242 friends; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4545 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Kamisha
4646 Block.
