5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss |

6 | 6 | | of U.S. Army Specialist Kamisha Jane Block of Vidor, who died on |

7 | 7 | | August 16, 2007, at the age of 20, while serving in Iraq; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Jane and Jerry Block, Kamisha Block |
---|
9 | 9 | | was born in Vidor, where she won many friends with her kindness and |
---|
10 | 10 | | her outgoing personality; a valued member of Eastgate United |
---|
11 | 11 | | Pentecostal Church and a model student, she motivated her friends |
---|
12 | 12 | | to strive toward academic success as well; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Specialist Block dreamed of a career in law |
---|
14 | 14 | | enforcement; diligent and goal-oriented, she held babysitting jobs |
---|
15 | 15 | | and began working at a restaurant before graduating from Vidor High |
---|
16 | 16 | | School in 2005; in July of that year, she joined the army and served |
---|
17 | 17 | | proudly as a military police officer; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Before her deployment to Iraq, Specialist Block was |
---|
19 | 19 | | stationed in Korea, and in January 2007, she was assigned to the |
---|
20 | 20 | | 401st Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, |
---|
21 | 21 | | 89th Military Police Brigade, based at Fort Hood; dedicated and |
---|
22 | 22 | | brave, she was affectionately known as "Wonder Woman" by her fellow |
---|
23 | 23 | | soldiers; her radiant smile and irrepressible humor brightened |
---|
24 | 24 | | difficult days, while her readiness to help others benefited many |
---|
25 | 25 | | fellow soldiers; her numerous decorations included the Bronze Star, |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, and the |
---|
27 | 27 | | Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Kamisha Block exemplified the highest ideals of the |
---|
29 | 29 | | U.S. armed forces; although her passing has left a void in the lives |
---|
30 | 30 | | of those who were fortunate enough to know her, they will forever |
---|
31 | 31 | | treasure their memories of this remarkable young woman; now, |
---|

33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist |
