5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Captain Michael |

6 | 6 | | Allen Norman suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this |

7 | 7 | | valiant soldier on January 31, 2008, at the age of 36; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Military Transition Team, Captain |
---|
9 | 9 | | Norman was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, |
---|
10 | 10 | | based at Fort Riley in Kansas; having volunteered for deployment, |
---|
11 | 11 | | he helped train Iraqi police, and he was mortally wounded in |
---|
12 | 12 | | Baghdad; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Born in Austin in 1971, Michael Norman was the |
---|
14 | 14 | | youngest of the two sons of Conny and Beverly Norman; since his |
---|
15 | 15 | | father was a member of the United States Army, Mr. Norman and his |
---|
16 | 16 | | family relocated often, and he spent his elementary school years in |
---|
17 | 17 | | Florence and attended middle school in Germany; after returning to |
---|
18 | 18 | | the Lone Star State, Mr. Norman graduated from Anderson High School |
---|
19 | 19 | | in Austin, where he played football and baseball, and he went on to |
---|
20 | 20 | | earn a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Following in his father's footsteps, Mr. Norman |
---|
22 | 22 | | joined the Army in 1992, and he was later stationed in Korea; during |
---|
23 | 23 | | his tour of duty overseas, he met his future wife, June, and they |
---|
24 | 24 | | were married in September 1994; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Cherished by many for his kind and charming nature, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Captain Norman was a devoted family man, and he enjoyed playing |
---|
27 | 27 | | guitar and singing; he was also a proud Texan and an ardent sports |
---|
28 | 28 | | fan, and he closely followed his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys; |
---|
29 | 29 | | and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's |
---|
31 | 31 | | military personnel, and their dedicated efforts and enormous |
---|
32 | 32 | | sacrifices are deserving of the utmost respect and gratitude; |
---|
33 | 33 | | through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and this country, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Captain Norman embodied the highest ideals of the United States |
---|
35 | 35 | | armed forces, and those who knew him will forever hold his memory |
---|
36 | 36 | | close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Captain Michael Allen |

39 | 39 | | Norman and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to |
