44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Captain Michael
66 Allen Norman suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this
77 valiant soldier on January 31, 2008, at the age of 36; and
88 WHEREAS, A member of the Military Transition Team, Captain
99 Norman was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division,
1010 based at Fort Riley in Kansas; having volunteered for deployment,
1111 he helped train Iraqi police, and he was mortally wounded in
1212 Baghdad; and
1313 WHEREAS, Born in Austin in 1971, Michael Norman was the
1414 youngest of the two sons of Conny and Beverly Norman; since his
1515 father was a member of the United States Army, Mr. Norman and his
1616 family relocated often, and he spent his elementary school years in
1717 Florence and attended middle school in Germany; after returning to
1818 the Lone Star State, Mr. Norman graduated from Anderson High School
1919 in Austin, where he played football and baseball, and he went on to
2020 earn a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas; and
2121 WHEREAS, Following in his father's footsteps, Mr. Norman
2222 joined the Army in 1992, and he was later stationed in Korea; during
2323 his tour of duty overseas, he met his future wife, June, and they
2424 were married in September 1994; and
2525 WHEREAS, Cherished by many for his kind and charming nature,
2626 Captain Norman was a devoted family man, and he enjoyed playing
2727 guitar and singing; he was also a proud Texan and an ardent sports
2828 fan, and he closely followed his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys;
2929 and
3030 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
3131 military personnel, and their dedicated efforts and enormous
3232 sacrifices are deserving of the utmost respect and gratitude;
3333 through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and this country,
3434 Captain Norman embodied the highest ideals of the United States
3535 armed forces, and those who knew him will forever hold his memory
3636 close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Captain Michael Allen
3939 Norman and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
4040 his wife, June Norman; to his children, Sammy and Summer Norman; to
4141 his parents, Conny and Beverly Norman; and to his other relatives
4242 and friends; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4545 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Captain
4646 Michael Allen Norman.
