| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the heartache felt |

| 6 | 6 | | at the loss of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Jeremy W. Burris of |

| 7 | 7 | | Liberty, who died while bravely serving his country on October 8, |

| 8 | 8 | | 2007, at the age of 22; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Pendleton, California, Lance Corporal Burris came to the aid of two |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | injured marines just minutes before he was killed by a bomb in Anbar |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Province, Iraq; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burris was a person of deep faith, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | which he shared with others through his involvement with a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Christian ministry in Tacoma, Washington; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | women whose love of country leads them to military duty, and time |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | can never diminish the profound debt that Americans owe to Jeremy |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Burris for the service he undertook and the sacrifice he rendered; |

| 21 | 21 | | he was a marine of honor and valor, and those who were fortunate |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | enough to share in his love and friendship will forever carry him |

| 23 | 23 | | close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of U.S. Marine Lance |

| 26 | 26 | | Corporal Jeremy Burris and extend sincere sympathy to the members |

| 27 | 27 | | of his family: to his parents, Brent and Karla Burris; to his four |

| 28 | 28 | | brothers; to his two sisters; and to his other relatives and many |
