5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The friends and family of U.S. Army Specialist |

6 | 6 | | Rodney Jerome Johnson of Houston suffered an incalculable loss with |

7 | 7 | | the death of this valiant soldier on September 4, 2007, at the age |

8 | 8 | | of 20; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Assigned as a cavalry scout to the 1st Squadron, 4th |
---|
10 | 10 | | Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry |
---|
11 | 11 | | Division based in Fort Riley, Kansas, Specialist Johnson was |
---|
12 | 12 | | mortally wounded when insurgents attacked his unit in Baghdad, |
---|
13 | 13 | | Iraq; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Specialist Johnson was the son of Rodney Johnson, |
---|
15 | 15 | | Sr., and Charlotte Johnson; he graduated from Hastings High School |
---|
16 | 16 | | and joined the army in September 2005, a few months before his |
---|
17 | 17 | | wedding to the former Ashley Cavazos; he began serving with the 1st |
---|
18 | 18 | | Infantry Division in March 2006 and was deployed to Iraq the |
---|
19 | 19 | | following February; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Specialist Johnson |
---|
21 | 21 | | cared deeply about his daughter, Ja'Aliyah Johnson, and wrote |
---|
22 | 22 | | moving letters to his beloved wife; he was looking forward to the |
---|
23 | 23 | | birth of their second child, Nysiah, with great anticipation; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men |
---|
25 | 25 | | and women whose love of country leads them to military duty, and |
---|
26 | 26 | | time can never diminish the profound debt that Americans owe to |
---|
27 | 27 | | Specialist Johnson for the service he undertook and the sacrifice |
---|
28 | 28 | | he rendered; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Through his selfless devotion to duty, honor, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | his country, Rodney Johnson embodied the highest ideals of the |
---|
31 | 31 | | armed services, and his memory will be forever treasured by those |
---|
32 | 32 | | who shared in the blessing of his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Specialist Rodney |

35 | 35 | | Jerome Johnson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his |

36 | 36 | | family: to his wife, Ashley Johnson; to his children, Ja'Aliyah and |
