55 WHEREAS, The friends and family of U.S. Army Specialist
66 Rodney Jerome Johnson of Houston suffered an incalculable loss with
77 the death of this valiant soldier on September 4, 2007, at the age
88 of 20; and
99 WHEREAS, Assigned as a cavalry scout to the 1st Squadron, 4th
1010 Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry
1111 Division based in Fort Riley, Kansas, Specialist Johnson was
1212 mortally wounded when insurgents attacked his unit in Baghdad,
1313 Iraq; and
1414 WHEREAS, Specialist Johnson was the son of Rodney Johnson,
1515 Sr., and Charlotte Johnson; he graduated from Hastings High School
1616 and joined the army in September 2005, a few months before his
1717 wedding to the former Ashley Cavazos; he began serving with the 1st
1818 Infantry Division in March 2006 and was deployed to Iraq the
1919 following February; and
2020 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Specialist Johnson
2121 cared deeply about his daughter, Ja'Aliyah Johnson, and wrote
2222 moving letters to his beloved wife; he was looking forward to the
2323 birth of their second child, Nysiah, with great anticipation; and
2424 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men
2525 and women whose love of country leads them to military duty, and
2626 time can never diminish the profound debt that Americans owe to
2727 Specialist Johnson for the service he undertook and the sacrifice
2828 he rendered; and
2929 WHEREAS, Through his selfless devotion to duty, honor, and
3030 his country, Rodney Johnson embodied the highest ideals of the
3131 armed services, and his memory will be forever treasured by those
3232 who shared in the blessing of his life; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Specialist Rodney
3535 Jerome Johnson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
3636 family: to his wife, Ashley Johnson; to his children, Ja'Aliyah and
3737 Nysiah; to his father, Rodney J. Johnson, Sr.; to his mother,
3838 Charlotte S. Johnson; to his sister, Marci Johnson; to his
3939 brothers, Andrew Whitson and Markis Mitchell; and to his other
4040 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
4444 Specialist Rodney Jerome Johnson.
