 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Texas MATHCOUNTS Team captured top honors at the
 2009 MATHCOUNTS National Competition, which took place in Orlando,
 Florida, on May 8, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, A national mathematics coaching and competition
 program, MATHCOUNTS serves to promote interest in the career
 opportunities that are available in mathematics, engineering,
 technology, and science; the program allows more than 500,000
 students nationwide to become involved in coaching sessions at the
 school level and to develop critical thinking skills and
 problem-solving techniques in algebra, computation, consumer math,
 geometry, logic, statistics, and other fields; and
 WHEREAS, The Texas team consisted of four exceptional
 students, Yury Aglyamov from Kealing Middle School in Austin,
 Steven Chen from Canyon Vista Middle School in Round Rock, and Bobby
 Shen and Lilly Shen, both from First Colony Middle School in Sugar
 Land; Bobby Shen also earned first place overall and became the 2009
 National MATHCOUNTS Champion; and
 WHEREAS, Serving as coach for the 2009 Texas team was math
 teacher Jeff Boyd of First Colony Middle School in Sugar Land; the
 2009 victory marks the fourth national title in five years for the
 Lone Star State teams headed by Mr. Boyd, which makes him the most
 successful coach in MATHCOUNTS history; and
 WHEREAS, These talented young Texans have each demonstrated
 admirable commitment to the pursuit of excellence in mathematics
 through countless hours of hard work, and it is indeed a pleasure to
 recognize them for their outstanding achievement; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Texas team on winning the 2009
 MATHCOUNTS National Competition and extend to Mathletes Yury
 Aglyamov, Steven Chen, Bobby Shen, and Lilly Shen, and Coach Jeff
 Boyd sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
