5	5	WHEREAS, Words cannot begin to express the heartache caused
6	6	by the loss of U.S. Army Corporal Jose A. Rubio Hernandez of
7	7	Mission, who died in Iraq on March 24, 2008, at the age of 24; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Assigned to the 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment,
9	9	4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, and based at Fort
10	10	Stewart, Georgia, Corporal Rubio deployed to Iraq in October 2007;
11	11	he was mortally wounded when his vehicle was hit by a makeshift bomb
12	12	in Baghdad; and
13	13	WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan was born on March 19,
14	14	1984, in Reynosa, Mexico, the youngest of nine brothers and
15	15	sisters; he moved to the United States with his family when he was
16	16	four and grew up in Mission, where he graduated from a charter high
17	17	school; deeply grateful for the opportunity his family had found in
18	18	the U.S., he wanted to enlist in the army as a way of giving
19	19	something back; and
20	20	WHEREAS, To improve his chances for advancement in the
21	21	military, which he joined in early 2006, Joe Rubio first earned an
22	22	associate's degree in 2005 at South Texas College, where he pursued
23	23	his passion for computer technology; he hoped to become a computer
24	24	programmer after completing his service in the army and had his
25	25	sights set on one day earning a doctorate; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Joe Rubio married Jennifer Guerra, his high school
27	27	sweetheart, in May 2006, after completing basic training, and their
28	28	son, Nikolai Cyrus, was born just a few months before Corporal Rubio
29	29	deployed overseas; and
30	30	WHEREAS, In appreciation for Joe Rubio's courageous efforts
31	31	in behalf of his adopted country, the City of Mission has renamed
32	32	the street on which he grew up as Corporal Jose A. Rubio Street; Joe
33	33	Rubio has also been posthumously granted American citizenship,
34	34	something he had hoped to attain and for which he had already
35	35	completed his application; and
36	36	WHEREAS, Talented and hardworking, Corporal Jose Rubio
37	37	aspired to make his mark in the world: "he wanted," his wife said,
38	38	"to be known for something"; with his passing, this nation has lost
39	39	an exemplary patriot and a man who had much yet to accomplish, and
40	40	his service and sacrifice are deserving of honor by every American;
41	41	now, therefore, be it
42	42	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
43	43	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corporal Jose A. Rubio
44	44	Hernandez and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
45	45	to his wife, Jennifer; to his son, Nikolai Cyrus; to his mother,
46	46	Macaria; to his brothers and sisters; and to his other relatives and
47	47	friends; and, be it further
48	48	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
49	49	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
50	50	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Corporal
51	51	Jose A. Rubio Hernandez.
