| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Specialist Alex |

| 6 | 6 | | Daniel Gonzalez of Mission suffered a grievous loss with his death |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in Iraq on May 6, 2008, at the age of 21; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Specialist Gonzalez was assigned to the 43rd Combat |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Engineer Company, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and based at Fort |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Hood; he was mortally wounded when his vehicle came under attack in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Mosul; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Part of a large, close-knit family, Alex Gonzalez |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | was born on January 27, 1987, in McAllen and lived most of his life |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in Mission; he graduated in 2005 from Mission High School, where he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | played football and baseball; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, From the time he was a small child, Specialist |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Gonzalez longed to follow in the footsteps of his father, a former |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | paratrooper; after enlisting in the army, he became an explosives |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | engineer, and while in Iraq he routinely volunteered for dangerous |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | missions; he found great satisfaction in military service and was |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | planning to reenlist; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed young man delighted in joking and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | telling stories; the only son among six children, he was protective |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of his younger sisters, his cousins, and his friends, and always |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Among the military medals conferred on Specialist |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Gonzalez were the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart; in addition, the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 127th graduating class of the Mission Police Academy presented an |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | award to his parents in recognition of his heroic service; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Specialist Gonzalez performed his difficult mission |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | in Iraq with exemplary dedication and professionalism; his |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | unfaltering devotion to duty, his fellow soldiers, and this country |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | reflected the highest ideals of the United States Army, and those |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | who were fortunate enough to share in his love and affection will |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Specialist Alex |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Daniel Gonzalez and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | family: to his parents, Idalia and Alfredo Gonzalez; to his |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | biological parents, Brenda Ojeda and Urbano Gonzalez, Jr.; to his |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | sisters, Casey Mejia and Emily, Audrey, Arleen, and April Gonzalez; |

| 42 | 42 | | to his paternal grandparents, Urbano Gonzalez, Sr., and Emma Maria |
