| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Cynthia Reyna has been honored by the Hispanic |

| 6 | 6 | | Heritage Foundation with a 2008 Youth Award in engineering and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | mathematics; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Reyna was an AP Scholar with honors and a High |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Honor Roll student at Charles H. Milby High School in Houston, where |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | she graduated with an impressive 3.96 grade point average; she |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | served as president of the National Honor Society and secretary of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the English Honor Society and is a recipient of the United Space |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Alliance/Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Pre-engineering Scholarship, among other academic awards; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, This motivated young Texan captured two first prizes |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in science fair competitions and was first runner-up in the Science |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Bowl; moreover, she has conducted toxicity research as part of the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Houston A+ Summer Internship program for the Baylor College of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Medicine and served as an intern for the Institute of Orthopedic |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Research and Education at The Methodist Hospital in Houston; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Reyna is active in her community as well, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | volunteering her time in the technology department of the Raul |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Yzaguirre School for Success and helping residents complete |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | naturalization paperwork at the U.S. Citizenship Workshop; in the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | future, she plans to study civil engineering at Texas A&M |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | University and aspires to a career designing structures that are |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | more resistant to damage from natural disasters; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Cynthia Reyna has proven her commitment to the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | pursuit of academic excellence, and this prestigious award justly |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | recognizes her talent and dedication; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Cynthia Reyna on her receipt of a |
