44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Angleton Danbury Medical Center is celebrating 40
66 years of service to the citizens of Brazoria County in 2009; and
77 WHEREAS, Established by the legislature in 1967, Angleton
88 Danbury General Hospital opened in November 1969 with the purpose
99 of providing medical care to the residents of the Angleton and
1010 Danbury area; the facility initially housed 34 licensed beds, but
1111 five years later that number had increased to 54, after funds raised
1212 by the community and matched by M. D. Anderson were used to complete
1313 the hospital's east wing; and
1414 WHEREAS, The demand for outpatient services increased
1515 through the years, and $9 million in bonds contributed to a
1616 substantial expansion and renovation of the facility in 1989; a
1717 decade later, construction of the $7 million Surgical and Cardiac
1818 Care Center was completed and the hospital became the Angleton
1919 Danbury Medical Center; in 2002, the Frank W. Stevens Health and
2020 Wellness Center was established, taking its name from a founding
2121 board member who was a strong advocate of wellness programs long
2222 before they were adopted by mainstream health care; and
2323 WHEREAS, Striving to accommodate a growing population, the
2424 medical center completed a $22 million project in June 2006 that
2525 impacted every patient care and service area on the campus; the
2626 majority of the funding consisted of a $20.3 million bond package, a
2727 $400,000 donation from the Peklo family, and a $97,000 gift from the
2828 medical center's auxiliary; and
2929 WHEREAS, Today, ADMC offers innovative patient care with
3030 state-of-the-art technology; the center includes a comprehensive
3131 intensive care unit, a modern obstetrical and women's health care
3232 division known as the Peklo Women's Pavilion, and a full emergency
3333 department that treats more than 16,000 people annually; and
3434 WHEREAS, Embracing its mission to improve the health of area
3535 Texans, Angleton Danbury Medical Center has distinguished itself as
3636 a vital and valued asset to Brazoria County and the Lone Star State,
3737 and it truly merits special recognition on the occasion of this
3838 milestone year; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby honor Angleton Danbury Medical Center on its
4141 40th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the
4242 facility sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
4343 further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for the center as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4646 House of Representatives.
