5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Angleton Danbury Medical Center is celebrating 40 |
---|
6 | 6 | | years of service to the citizens of Brazoria County in 2009; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established by the legislature in 1967, Angleton |
---|
8 | 8 | | Danbury General Hospital opened in November 1969 with the purpose |
---|
9 | 9 | | of providing medical care to the residents of the Angleton and |
---|
10 | 10 | | Danbury area; the facility initially housed 34 licensed beds, but |
---|
11 | 11 | | five years later that number had increased to 54, after funds raised |
---|
12 | 12 | | by the community and matched by M. D. Anderson were used to complete |
---|
13 | 13 | | the hospital's east wing; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The demand for outpatient services increased |
---|
15 | 15 | | through the years, and $9 million in bonds contributed to a |
---|
16 | 16 | | substantial expansion and renovation of the facility in 1989; a |
---|
17 | 17 | | decade later, construction of the $7 million Surgical and Cardiac |
---|
18 | 18 | | Care Center was completed and the hospital became the Angleton |
---|
19 | 19 | | Danbury Medical Center; in 2002, the Frank W. Stevens Health and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Wellness Center was established, taking its name from a founding |
---|
21 | 21 | | board member who was a strong advocate of wellness programs long |
---|
22 | 22 | | before they were adopted by mainstream health care; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Striving to accommodate a growing population, the |
---|
24 | 24 | | medical center completed a $22 million project in June 2006 that |
---|
25 | 25 | | impacted every patient care and service area on the campus; the |
---|
26 | 26 | | majority of the funding consisted of a $20.3 million bond package, a |
---|
27 | 27 | | $400,000 donation from the Peklo family, and a $97,000 gift from the |
---|
28 | 28 | | medical center's auxiliary; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Today, ADMC offers innovative patient care with |
---|
30 | 30 | | state-of-the-art technology; the center includes a comprehensive |
---|
31 | 31 | | intensive care unit, a modern obstetrical and women's health care |
---|
32 | 32 | | division known as the Peklo Women's Pavilion, and a full emergency |
---|
33 | 33 | | department that treats more than 16,000 people annually; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Embracing its mission to improve the health of area |
---|
35 | 35 | | Texans, Angleton Danbury Medical Center has distinguished itself as |
---|
36 | 36 | | a vital and valued asset to Brazoria County and the Lone Star State, |
---|
37 | 37 | | and it truly merits special recognition on the occasion of this |
---|
38 | 38 | | milestone year; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby honor Angleton Danbury Medical Center on its |
---|
41 | 41 | | 40th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the |
---|
42 | 42 | | facility sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | further |

44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
