5	5	WHEREAS, For nearly half a century, Georgia Provost has
6	6	greatly contributed to the field of education in the Houston area;
7	7	and
8	8	WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Southern University with a
9	9	bachelor's degree in photography, Mrs. Provost has had a long and
10	10	impressive career as a professor of photography at TSU and as a
11	11	professional photographer with Provost and Associates; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Mrs. Provost has been a longtime advocate of
13	13	educational opportunities for African American youth, working with
14	14	The Metropolitan Organization and the Youth for Christ Foundation;
15	15	she has also worked with students at Jack Yates High School; and
16	16	WHEREAS, A member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church,
17	17	Mrs. Provost has served as executive director of the T. F. Freeman
18	18	Ministers Laity Summit and as a founding member of the
19	19	Helfman/Provost fund-raising team; and
20	20	WHEREAS, In 2009, Mrs. Provost is celebrating her 50th year
21	21	of association with TSU, as a student, professor, executive
22	22	director of the TSU Bayou Bend Alumni and Ex-Student Association,
23	23	and self-appointed ambassador; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Married for 38 years to TSU tennis coach Herbert
25	25	Provost, Mrs. Provost has been blessed with two sons who have
26	26	followed in her footsteps; Jerome Provost is chief photographer at
27	27	Provost and Associates, and Ray Carrington III teaches photography
28	28	at Jack Yates High; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Georgia Provost has distinguished herself as a
30	30	photographer, an educator, and a leading member of her community,
31	31	and this outstanding Texan may indeed take pride in her many
32	32	achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
34	34	Legislature hereby commend Georgia Provost for her long record of
35	35	service to her community and extend to her sincere best wishes for
36	36	continued happiness; and, be it further
37	37	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
38	38	prepared for Mrs. Provost as an expression of high regard by the
39	39	Texas House of Representatives.
