55 WHEREAS, For nearly half a century, Georgia Provost has
66 greatly contributed to the field of education in the Houston area;
77 and
88 WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Southern University with a
99 bachelor's degree in photography, Mrs. Provost has had a long and
1010 impressive career as a professor of photography at TSU and as a
1111 professional photographer with Provost and Associates; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mrs. Provost has been a longtime advocate of
1313 educational opportunities for African American youth, working with
1414 The Metropolitan Organization and the Youth for Christ Foundation;
1515 she has also worked with students at Jack Yates High School; and
1616 WHEREAS, A member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church,
1717 Mrs. Provost has served as executive director of the T. F. Freeman
1818 Ministers Laity Summit and as a founding member of the
1919 Helfman/Provost fund-raising team; and
2020 WHEREAS, In 2009, Mrs. Provost is celebrating her 50th year
2121 of association with TSU, as a student, professor, executive
2222 director of the TSU Bayou Bend Alumni and Ex-Student Association,
2323 and self-appointed ambassador; and
2424 WHEREAS, Married for 38 years to TSU tennis coach Herbert
2525 Provost, Mrs. Provost has been blessed with two sons who have
2626 followed in her footsteps; Jerome Provost is chief photographer at
2727 Provost and Associates, and Ray Carrington III teaches photography
2828 at Jack Yates High; and
2929 WHEREAS, Georgia Provost has distinguished herself as a
3030 photographer, an educator, and a leading member of her community,
3131 and this outstanding Texan may indeed take pride in her many
3232 achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby commend Georgia Provost for her long record of
3535 service to her community and extend to her sincere best wishes for
3636 continued happiness; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for Mrs. Provost as an expression of high regard by the
3939 Texas House of Representatives.
