| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Claude Cummings of Houston has contributed greatly |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | to the betterment of his community for many years; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in the Bayou City, Mr. Cummings |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | graduated from Kashmere High School and went on to attend Tuskegee |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | University; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cummings was a communications technician with |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | AT&T for 34 years before his retirement; in his current role as |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | president of Communications Workers of America Local 6222, he has |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | helped to lead a number of service projects, including efforts to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | assist disadvantaged youth, nursing homes, and local food banks; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A man of strong faith as well, Mr. Cummings has also |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | been active with Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church, where he |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | volunteers with the Faith Revitalization Center and serves as chair |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of the deacons board; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan has distinguished himself as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | a voice for working people, a source of hope for the needy, and a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | caring member of his community, and he may indeed take pride in his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby commend Claude Cummings for his long record of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | service in behalf of his fellow Texans and extend to him sincere |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
