55 WHEREAS, Rabbi Ranon Teller of Congregation Brith Shalom
66 faithfully serves the spiritual needs of his community in Greater
77 Houston, and his genuine regard for the welfare of others has
88 enriched the lives of countless people; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Jewish educators, Ranon Teller was born
1010 and raised in Southfield, Michigan, and attended Akiva Hebrew Day
1111 School until he moved to Chicago to attend Skokie Yeshiva High
1212 School; he went on to pursue two years of intense yeshiva study in
1313 Israel before earning a bachelor's degree in television writing
1414 from Columbia College in Chicago; his first career eventually took
1515 him to Los Angeles and Jerusalem, where he enrolled part-time at
1616 Machon Schechter, a Conservative rabbinical school; and
1717 WHEREAS, After fully recognizing his calling, Rabbi Teller
1818 embarked on a joint rabbinic and education program at the
1919 University of Judaism; he earned a master's degree in education
2020 from the Fingerhut School of Education in 1999 and received the
2121 school's Education Award for Outstanding Achievement; with his
2222 rabbinic ordination in 2002, he received the Chancellor's Award for
2323 Academic Excellence; and
2424 WHEREAS, Rabbi Teller served as an assistant rabbi and as
2525 associate rabbi at Congregation B'nai Amoona in St. Louis,
2626 Missouri, before joining Congregation Brith Shalom in 2005; in
2727 addition to his many responsibilities as its leader, he serves on
2828 the board of directors of Jewish Family Service in Houston; he is
2929 the recipient of the 2007 Mae and Edmund Hecht Rabbinic
3030 Presentation from the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston; and
3131 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Rabbi Teller enjoys the love
3232 and support of his wife, Vicki Teller, who chairs the synagogue's
3333 successful KidShul program; the couple have four children, Ariella,
3434 Maya, Jake, and Nava; and
3535 WHEREAS, Rabbi Teller has demonstrated a wholehearted
3636 commitment to his congregation and to the wider community, and his
3737 faith and many good works have been a source of profound inspiration
3838 to all who know him; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Ranon Teller for his service to the
4141 community and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and,
4242 be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for Rabbi Teller as an expression of high regard by the
4545 Texas House of Representatives.
