5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Ranon Teller of Congregation Brith Shalom |

7 | 7 | | Houston, and his genuine regard for the welfare of others has |

8 | 8 | | enriched the lives of countless people; and |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Jewish educators, Ranon Teller was born |

10 | 10 | | and raised in Southfield, Michigan, and attended Akiva Hebrew Day |
---|
11 | 11 | | School until he moved to Chicago to attend Skokie Yeshiva High |
---|
12 | 12 | | School; he went on to pursue two years of intense yeshiva study in |
---|
13 | 13 | | Israel before earning a bachelor's degree in television writing |
---|
14 | 14 | | from Columbia College in Chicago; his first career eventually took |
---|
15 | 15 | | him to Los Angeles and Jerusalem, where he enrolled part-time at |
---|
16 | 16 | | Machon Schechter, a Conservative rabbinical school; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, After fully recognizing his calling, Rabbi Teller |
---|
18 | 18 | | embarked on a joint rabbinic and education program at the |
---|
19 | 19 | | University of Judaism; he earned a master's degree in education |
---|
20 | 20 | | from the Fingerhut School of Education in 1999 and received the |
---|
21 | 21 | | school's Education Award for Outstanding Achievement; with his |
---|
22 | 22 | | rabbinic ordination in 2002, he received the Chancellor's Award for |
---|
23 | 23 | | Academic Excellence; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Teller served as an assistant rabbi and as |
---|
25 | 25 | | associate rabbi at Congregation B'nai Amoona in St. Louis, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Missouri, before joining Congregation Brith Shalom in 2005; in |
---|
27 | 27 | | addition to his many responsibilities as its leader, he serves on |
---|
28 | 28 | | the board of directors of Jewish Family Service in Houston; he is |
---|
29 | 29 | | the recipient of the 2007 Mae and Edmund Hecht Rabbinic |
---|
30 | 30 | | Presentation from the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Rabbi Teller enjoys the love |
---|
32 | 32 | | and support of his wife, Vicki Teller, who chairs the synagogue's |
---|
33 | 33 | | successful KidShul program; the couple have four children, Ariella, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Maya, Jake, and Nava; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Rabbi Teller has demonstrated a wholehearted |
---|
36 | 36 | | commitment to his congregation and to the wider community, and his |
---|
37 | 37 | | faith and many good works have been a source of profound inspiration |
---|
38 | 38 | | to all who know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby honor Rabbi Ranon Teller for his service to the |

41 | 41 | | community and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
