| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, On June 7, 2009, the members of St. Paul Missionary |

| 6 | 6 | | Baptist Church in Brookshire are celebrating the 111th anniversary |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of their church's establishment; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1898 by the Reverend Armstead Brandyberg, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the First Colored Baptist Church of Brookshire began on a tract of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | land purchased for $20; it was able to expand thanks to a generous |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | land donation from Deacon Charlie Smith, and with the construction |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of a church building, it was renamed St. Paul Missionary Baptist |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Church; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | leadership of many dedicated pastors, and today the tradition of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | service continues under the direction of the Reverend Dr. Lee |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Jones, Jr.; officially installed in March 1978, he has been a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | blessing to his congregants, and his guidance helped to make |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | possible a new worship facility, completed in June 1999; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | members support a variety of commendable programs that offer |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | fellowship as well as help to those in need; in addition to an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | extensive music ministry, the church has an active youth ministry, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a brotherhood and women's mission ministry, and an education |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | committee that provides scholarships; moreover, this "Church with a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Big Heart" is home to Christians Against Drugs, a nonprofit group |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | helping to combat addiction; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church has long served |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 111th anniversary of St. Paul |

| 35 | 35 | | Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere |

| 36 | 36 | | best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship; |
