5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Senior Day is taking place on February 10, 2009, at |

6 | 6 | | the State Capitol, and this occasion offers a welcome opportunity |

7 | 7 | | to pay tribute to the many contributions made by the senior citizens |

8 | 8 | | of the Lone Star State; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition, |
---|
10 | 10 | | this year's event is focused on the theme "Seniors--the Heart of |
---|
11 | 11 | | Texas"; that sentiment is indeed a fitting tribute to the |
---|
12 | 12 | | significant role these individuals play in communities across our |
---|
13 | 13 | | state; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Through the decades, they have helped Texas to |
---|
15 | 15 | | achieve greatness in a broad range of fields, including industry, |
---|
16 | 16 | | the arts, agriculture, education, information technology, space |
---|
17 | 17 | | exploration, and more; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Witnesses to monumental events during their |
---|
19 | 19 | | lifetimes, many residents age 60 and older have served their nation |
---|
20 | 20 | | in times of war, and they have also helped maintain the peace in |
---|
21 | 21 | | postings around the globe; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The experience and wisdom gained by senior Texans |
---|
23 | 23 | | make them revered mentors and role models to younger generations; |
---|
24 | 24 | | among the lessons they teach is the value of leading an active and |
---|
25 | 25 | | healthy life well into the golden years, and their ongoing |
---|
26 | 26 | | achievements are not only inspiring but also represent valuable |
---|
27 | 27 | | contributions that greatly benefit their fellow citizens; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Today, Texas has approximately three million |
---|
29 | 29 | | residents over age 60, and that number is expected to grow to more |
---|
30 | 30 | | than five million by the year 2020; strong in numbers and |
---|
31 | 31 | | distinguished by their great endeavors, past and present, the |
---|
32 | 32 | | seniors of the Lone Star State are a valuable resource for all |
---|
33 | 33 | | Texans, and they are indeed deserving of respect and admiration; |

34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 10, 2009, as Senior Day at |
