| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In a season-long demonstration of teamwork and |

| 6 | 6 | | determination, the 2009 Lyford High School softball team claimed |

| 7 | 7 | | district, bidistrict, and area championships and advanced to the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | regional semifinal round of the University Interscholastic League |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | playoffs; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Lady Bulldogs turned in a solid performance |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | during the regular season to win the 32-3A district crown and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | received a first-round bye in the postseason; they then matched up |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | with Pearsall High School and triumphed in a dramatic three-game |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | series to become area champs; a victory over the team from Ingleside |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | High School earned the Lyford players a spot in the regional |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | semifinals, where they ultimately fell to Sweeny High School; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Finishing with an overall record of 26 wins and 9 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | losses, the Lady Bulldogs proved that they could compete with the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | other top 3A teams in the Lone Star State, and they may look with |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | optimism toward next season, when all but two of this year's players |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | will return to once again pursue the state title; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Relying on a true team effort during the 2009 |

| 23 | 23 | | campaign, Lyford received vital contributions from each member of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the roster: Michelle Romo, Alex Sauceda, Marissa Chavez, Lexi |

| 25 | 25 | | Lopez, Nanette Salinas, Maria Lopez, Annie Garcia, Jackie Esparza, |

| 26 | 26 | | Krystal Rodriguez, Renee Chavez, Jillian Flores, Rebecca Mendez, |

| 27 | 27 | | Katrina Zamorano, Marlena Rivera, and Miranda Perez; and |

| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, These skilled athletes were guided by head coach |

| 30 | 30 | | Bulldogs in 2009; essential input was also provided by assistant |

| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Inspired by their many ardent supporters, the Lyford |

| 33 | 33 | | players and coaches combined for an exceptional season, and the |

| 34 | 34 | | team's spirited performances on the ball field were a source of |

| 35 | 35 | | great pride in the local community; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Lyford High School Lady |

| 38 | 38 | | Bulldogs softball team on its achievements during the 2009 season |
