44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, In a season-long demonstration of teamwork and
66 determination, the 2009 Lyford High School softball team claimed
77 district, bidistrict, and area championships and advanced to the
88 regional semifinal round of the University Interscholastic League
99 playoffs; and
1010 WHEREAS, The Lady Bulldogs turned in a solid performance
1111 during the regular season to win the 32-3A district crown and
1212 received a first-round bye in the postseason; they then matched up
1313 with Pearsall High School and triumphed in a dramatic three-game
1414 series to become area champs; a victory over the team from Ingleside
1515 High School earned the Lyford players a spot in the regional
1616 semifinals, where they ultimately fell to Sweeny High School; and
1717 WHEREAS, Finishing with an overall record of 26 wins and 9
1818 losses, the Lady Bulldogs proved that they could compete with the
1919 other top 3A teams in the Lone Star State, and they may look with
2020 optimism toward next season, when all but two of this year's players
2121 will return to once again pursue the state title; and
2222 WHEREAS, Relying on a true team effort during the 2009
2323 campaign, Lyford received vital contributions from each member of
2424 the roster: Michelle Romo, Alex Sauceda, Marissa Chavez, Lexi
2525 Lopez, Nanette Salinas, Maria Lopez, Annie Garcia, Jackie Esparza,
2626 Krystal Rodriguez, Renee Chavez, Jillian Flores, Rebecca Mendez,
2727 Katrina Zamorano, Marlena Rivera, and Miranda Perez; and
2828 WHEREAS, These skilled athletes were guided by head coach
2929 Eloy Perez, who completed his first year at the helm of the Lady
3030 Bulldogs in 2009; essential input was also provided by assistant
3131 coaches Lyrissa Molina and Petey Garcia; and
3232 WHEREAS, Inspired by their many ardent supporters, the Lyford
3333 players and coaches combined for an exceptional season, and the
3434 team's spirited performances on the ball field were a source of
3535 great pride in the local community; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3737 Legislature hereby congratulate the Lyford High School Lady
3838 Bulldogs softball team on its achievements during the 2009 season
3939 and extend sincere best wishes to the players and coaches for
4040 continued success; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4343 House of Representatives.
