| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dick Messbarger has contributed greatly to the |

| 6 | 6 | | betterment of his community and the State of Texas for many years; |
|---|

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Vietnam War, Mr. Messbarger earned his bachelor's degree from |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | St. Mary's University, and he worked for a time as the principal of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Corpus Christi Academy before moving to Kingsville in 1972; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Entering a new career path, he became general |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | manager of radio stations KINE and KPUP and managing editor of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Kingsville Record and Bishop News; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Since 1988, Mr. Messbarger has distinguished |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | himself in Kingsville as executive director of the Greater |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Kingsville Economic Development Council; he has further shared his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | leadership as president of the Kingsville chapter of the Navy |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | League, and he currently plays a vital role as secretary of the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Kingsville Area Industrial Development Foundation board and the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Coastal Bend Community Foundation, as a board member of the Coastal |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Bend Housing Finance Corporation, and as chair of the Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Defense, Aviation, and Aerospace Alliance; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Messbarger was named the 2008 Kingsville Citizen |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of the Year by the local chamber of commerce, and he was honored |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | with the Sam Walton Business Leader Award in 1998 and the Community |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Economic Development Award from the Texas Economic Development |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Council in 1998 and 2000; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dick Messbarger has long played a leading role in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the growth and prosperity of Kingsville, and he may indeed reflect |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | with pride on the many significant contributions he has made to the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | betterment of his community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commend Dick Messbarger for his exemplary record |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | of civic engagement and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
