5	5	WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
6	6	recognize Saint Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Austin on
7	7	the grand occasion of its 125th anniversary; and
8	8	WHEREAS, A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
9	9	America, Saint Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church traces its
10	10	roots back to 1883, when bimonthly German Lutheran worship services
11	11	were conducted by Reverend Henry Merz, a missionary from
12	12	Switzerland; and
13	13	WHEREAS, The church's first structure was built in 1884 on
14	14	East Peach Street, now 13th Street, with handmade bricks salvaged
15	15	from the original Capitol, which had been destroyed by fire; since
16	16	then, the church has grown considerably and has moved twice because
17	17	of expansion of the Capitol grounds; the cornerstones of the first
18	18	two churches have been placed in the front wall of the present
19	19	building, which was dedicated in 1960 and is located on West 15th
20	20	Street; and
21	21	WHEREAS, Over the past 125 years, the church has ministered
22	22	faithfully to the needs of the citizens of Austin and has continued
23	23	to grow and prosper; the church has a Lutheran school and a
24	24	Stephen's Ministry and offers a variety of support groups and
25	25	outreach programs; and
26	26	WHEREAS, The church has also served as an invaluable source
27	27	of strength to its members during their hardships and in difficult
28	28	times; and
29	29	WHEREAS, The observance of the church's 125th anniversary
30	30	offers an opportunity to celebrate the support and inspiration it
31	31	provides to area citizens and its contributions to the community;
32	32	now, therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
34	34	Legislature hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members of
35	35	Saint Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church on the joyous occasion
36	36	of its 125th anniversary; and, be it further
37	37	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
38	38	prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
39	39	House of Representatives.
