44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Waxahachie resident Charlie E. Pace on January 18, 2009,
77 at the age of 85; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Somervell County on September 5, 1923,
99 Mr. Pace married the love of his life, Evelyn, in 1953; together
1010 they shared more than half a century and raised a daughter, Janis;
1111 and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Pace served his country with distinction in
1313 World War II as a member of the 78th Infantry, 311 Regiment, in the
1414 European theater; he continued his military service for 25 years
1515 with the Texas State Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel; and
1616 WHEREAS, He started working in the grocery business when he
1717 was only 14, and he went back to the work following the war; after
1818 more than three decades of service with the Kroger Company, he
1919 retired in 1986 and later went to work with Wayne Boze Funeral Home;
2020 and
2121 WHEREAS, Mr. Pace was a valued member of the Waxahachie
2222 community; president of Ellis County Christian Men's Fellowship
2323 Breakfast and post commander of the JoVan Marchbanks American
2424 Legion Post No. 137, he was also a charter member of the Waxahachie
2525 Kiwanis Club, life member of the VFW, and member of the Zoning Board
2626 of Adjustment for the City of Waxahachie; and
2727 WHEREAS, Active in University Assembly of God Church, he
2828 served his fellow congregants as Sunday school superintendent,
2929 board member, and head usher; he also directed devotions for the
3030 adult department, shared his time with the visitation and hospital
3131 outreach ministries, and served as director of District Light for
3232 the Lost for more than 17 years; and
3333 WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Pace enjoyed visiting with his
3434 family, tending to his well-groomed lawn, cheering on the Texas
3535 Rangers, and going to the rodeo; and
3636 WHEREAS, Charlie Pace was held in the highest regard by all
3737 who knew him, and he leaves behind memories that will be forever
3838 treasured by his family and friends; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Charlie E. Pace and
4141 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
4242 Evelyn Vaden Pace; to his daughter, Janis Gail Pace; to his
4343 brothers, Verdie Pace and his wife, Wynell, and Marlin Pace and his
4444 wife, Doris; to his sisters, Joy Mann and Eva Pace; and to his other
4545 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charlie E.
4949 Pace.
