5	5	WHEREAS, Ron Whitlock has distinguished himself as a
6	6	successful broadcaster and a dedicated civic leader, and it is
7	7	indeed a pleasure to recognize his outstanding service to his
8	8	community; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Raised on a farm in San Juan, Texas, Ron Whitlock
10	10	picked cotton as a youth, and he went on to graduate from PSJA High
11	11	School; he also attended The University of Texas--Pan American and
12	12	Texas A&M University--Kingsville, and he launched his broadcasting
13	13	career as a commercial manager at a Raymondville radio station; as
14	14	he learned the radio business, he was promoted to positions of
15	15	greater responsibility, becoming the news director for KRIO-910 AM
16	16	in McAllen and earning numerous awards for his coverage of the
17	17	hurricanes that struck the Rio Grande Valley in the 1960s; and
18	18	WHEREAS, With his transition to television, Mr. Whitlock went
19	19	to work for KRGV-TV in Weslaco and then joined KIII-TV in Corpus
20	20	Christi as the managing editor of the news team and later the
21	21	evening news anchor; during his time in Corpus Christi, he also
22	22	handled public relations for the Corpus Christi Independent School
23	23	District and was president of the Texas School Public Relations
24	24	Association and of the Volunteer Services State Council, which
25	25	represented 26 Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental
26	26	Retardation facilities; in addition, he began consulting work for
27	27	private companies and state agencies in the areas of marketing,
28	28	public relations, and advertising; and
29	29	WHEREAS, After he had built four radio stations in Texas and a
30	30	booming trade show business, Mr. Whitlock returned to television as
31	31	the host and executive producer of the public affairs program,
32	32	Borderline, on KRGV-TV; known today as RW Reports, Mr. Whitlock's
33	33	show covers issues that are important to the residents of the border
34	34	region, and he regularly interviews policy makers; and
35	35	WHEREAS, Active in numerous organizations, Mr. Whitlock
36	36	established the Rio Grande Valley Press Club and was the vice
37	37	president of the United Press International Broadcasters of Texas;
38	38	he was also on the boards of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, the
39	39	local chapter of the American Red Cross, and Methodist Church San
40	40	Juan, and he was a founder and president of the Sunrise Rotary Club
41	41	of Corpus Christi and a participant in Leadership Corpus Christi;
42	42	and
43	43	WHEREAS, Ron Whitlock has remained committed to South Texas
44	44	through his professional and civic endeavors, and he has earned the
45	45	lasting respect and admiration of his colleagues and fellow
46	46	citizens; now, therefore, be it
47	47	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
48	48	Legislature hereby honor Ron Whitlock for his successful career in
49	49	broadcasting and his outstanding service to his community and
50	50	extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
51	51	happiness; and, be it further
52	52	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	53	prepared for Mr. Whitlock as an expression of high regard by the
54	54	Texas House of Representatives.
