| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Scott A. Holt is retiring from the Marine Science |

| 6 | 6 | | Institute of The University of Texas at Austin in 2009, drawing to a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | close a notable career with that institution that has spanned |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | nearly 3-1/2 decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Holt studied wildlife and fisheries at Texas A&M |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1969 and his master's |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | degree seven years later; he began working at UT's Marine Science |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Institute in 1974, and he is retiring as a research associate; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished scientist's research interests |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | cover a variety of topics within the subjects of fisheries and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | ecology, including studying the interrelationship between fish and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | their habitats; he has authored or coauthored 23 scientific papers, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 3 book chapters, and numerous technical reports; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Holt has also worked with fishermen along the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Gulf of Mexico on research projects; his work has been funded by the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | NOAA Texas Sea Grant College Program, the Saltwater-fisheries |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Enhancement Association, the Coastal Conservation Association, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission, and the Sid W. Richardson |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Foundation; moreover, he has been an adjunct faculty member at |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi, and he has been involved in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | public service in Port Aransas; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Scott Holt's dedication, expertise, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | intellectual curiosity have led to a deeper understanding of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | fish populations and habitats of the Gulf Coast region of Texas, and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well-spent as he |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
