| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The 49th annual Texas Jazz Festival is taking place |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | October 16 through 18, 2009, at Heritage Park in Corpus Christi; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Inaugurated in 1960, this popular celebration of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | jazz is one of the longest established and continuously operated |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | free music festivals in the nation; through the decades, it has |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | featured well-known musicians and introduced new talent, and that |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | tradition continues in 2009, with an exciting mix of artists making |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | their way to the Gulf Coast; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This highly anticipated event is made possible |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | through the efforts of the Texas Jazz Festival Society, an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | all-volunteer organization dedicated to the promotion, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | preservation, and appreciation of jazz music; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In presenting the Corpus Christi festival free of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | charge to the public, the society is carrying forth its goal of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | perpetuating the live performance of jazz music; moreover, it also |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | encourages and assists in the education of young jazz artists and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | works to showcase musicians from the Corpus Christi area; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Jazz is an original American art form that has been |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | an important part of the rich musical heritage of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | State; the annual presentation of the Texas Jazz Festival is paying |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | tribute to that proud legacy, and this outstanding event and the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | people who make it happen are indeed deserving of recognition; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 49th annual Texas Jazz Festival |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | in Corpus Christi and honor the members of the Texas Jazz Festival |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Society for their admirable work; and, be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
