5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Since 2003, Chuck Cazalas has ably served the |

6 | 6 | | residents of Nueces County as Precinct 4 county commissioner, and |

7 | 7 | | his knowledge and dedication have earned him widespread respect and |
---|
8 | 8 | | appreciation; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure, Commissioner Cazalas has |
---|
10 | 10 | | successfully worked to lower taxes, implement tax exemptions for |
---|
11 | 11 | | senior citizens and the disabled, and lower workers' compensation |
---|
12 | 12 | | fund premiums; his public service also includes terms on the State |
---|
13 | 13 | | Pension Board of Trustees, the State Policy Committee for the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Conference of Urban Counties, and the State Community Development |
---|
15 | 15 | | Review Committee, which he chairs; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Commissioner Cazalas is a retired manager of |
---|
17 | 17 | | government and political affairs for CITGO Refining and Chemicals; |
---|
18 | 18 | | dedicated to giving back, he has chaired the board of directors of |
---|
19 | 19 | | the American Diabetes Association and been a member of the boards of |
---|
20 | 20 | | the Salvation Army, Food Bank of Corpus Christi, American Heart |
---|
21 | 21 | | Association, and March of Dimes WalkAmerica; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, This notable Texan has received a number of |
---|
23 | 23 | | accolades for his outstanding work and support of worthwhile |
---|
24 | 24 | | endeavors; in addition to the Colin Powell America's Promise |
---|
25 | 25 | | Connection Award and the Citizen of the Year Award from the City of |
---|
26 | 26 | | Corpus Christi, he has earned the Coastal Stewardship Award from |
---|
27 | 27 | | the Texas General Land Office and the Walter B. Jones Memorial Award |
---|
28 | 28 | | for Excellence in Local Government from the National Oceanic and |
---|
29 | 29 | | Atmospheric Administration; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Each day, public servants work to improve the |
---|
31 | 31 | | quality of life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | the efforts of Commissioner Cazalas are helping to make Nueces |
---|
33 | 33 | | County a better place in which to live and work; now, therefore, be |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby honor Chuck Cazalas for his service as Nueces |
