44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Margaret L. Felty of Waxahachie, an esteemed
66 educator and beloved community leader, passed away on April 3,
77 2009, at the age of 92; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on August 20, 1916, in Paris, Texas, the former
99 Margaret L. Rowland was the daughter of Lanis and Margaret E.
1010 Rowland; she married L. T. Felty on April 17, 1936, and together the
1111 couple shared nearly six decades and raised three children before
1212 his death in 1996; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mrs. Felty graduated from Texas Christian
1414 University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and
1515 went on to earn a master's degree in history from The University of
1616 Texas at Arlington; she was an enthusiastic and attentive first
1717 grade teacher at Northside Elementary School in Waxahachie for many
1818 years, and she was recognized with the 2006 Outstanding Elementary
1919 Educator's award by the Waxahachie Ex-Students Association;
2020 moreover, in September 2008, the Waxahachie Independent School
2121 District paid tribute to Mrs. Felty by dedicating the Margaret L.
2222 Felty Elementary School in her honor; and
2323 WHEREAS, Following her retirement, Mrs. Felty gave
2424 generously of her time and energy in behalf of numerous
2525 organizations, including the Ellis County Retired School
2626 Personnel, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Ellis
2727 County Genealogical Society, and the Ellis County Historical
2828 Commission, which she served as chair for 14 years; in addition, she
2929 served as president of the Century Club and of the Alpha Alpha
3030 chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and as a ruling elder and Sunday school
3131 teacher at Central Presbyterian Church; her support of her
3232 community was honored in 2002 with her selection as the First Lady
3333 of Waxahachie; and
3434 WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Mama T," Margaret Felty had
3535 a way of making everyone feel special, and her optimism and kindness
3636 inspired countless people; although she will be deeply missed,
3737 memories of her will be forever cherished by all those who shared in
3838 her love and friendship; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby honor the life of Margaret L. Felty and extend
4141 sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her children,
4242 Larry Felty and his wife, Glinda, Joe Felty and his wife, Jane, and
4343 Margaret E. Felty; to her grandchildren, Bryan Felty and his wife,
4444 Kimberly, Patrick Felty and his wife, Heather, Julie Vela and her
4545 husband, John, David Averett and his wife, Traci, Jackie Kindred
4646 and her husband, Avery, Leslie Deen and her husband, Brad, and Joe
4747 Averett and his wife, Sarah; to her great-grandchildren, Andrew,
4848 Joe, Alexus, J. J., Jeff, Storme, Kaitlen, William, Calder, Tyler,
4949 Adam, and Tatum; to her siblings, June Groves, Pam Gandy, and Rex
5050 Rowland; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it
5151 further
5252 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5353 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5454 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Margaret L.
5555 Felty.
