5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Margaret L. Felty of Waxahachie, an esteemed |

6 | 6 | | educator and beloved community leader, passed away on April 3, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2009, at the age of 92; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on August 20, 1916, in Paris, Texas, the former |
---|
9 | 9 | | Margaret L. Rowland was the daughter of Lanis and Margaret E. |
---|
10 | 10 | | Rowland; she married L. T. Felty on April 17, 1936, and together the |
---|
11 | 11 | | couple shared nearly six decades and raised three children before |
---|
12 | 12 | | his death in 1996; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Felty graduated from Texas Christian |
---|
14 | 14 | | University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and |
---|
15 | 15 | | went on to earn a master's degree in history from The University of |
---|
16 | 16 | | Texas at Arlington; she was an enthusiastic and attentive first |
---|
17 | 17 | | grade teacher at Northside Elementary School in Waxahachie for many |
---|
18 | 18 | | years, and she was recognized with the 2006 Outstanding Elementary |
---|
19 | 19 | | Educator's award by the Waxahachie Ex-Students Association; |
---|
20 | 20 | | moreover, in September 2008, the Waxahachie Independent School |
---|
21 | 21 | | District paid tribute to Mrs. Felty by dedicating the Margaret L. |
---|
22 | 22 | | Felty Elementary School in her honor; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Following her retirement, Mrs. Felty gave |
---|
24 | 24 | | generously of her time and energy in behalf of numerous |
---|
25 | 25 | | organizations, including the Ellis County Retired School |
---|
26 | 26 | | Personnel, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Ellis |
---|
27 | 27 | | County Genealogical Society, and the Ellis County Historical |
---|
28 | 28 | | Commission, which she served as chair for 14 years; in addition, she |
---|
29 | 29 | | served as president of the Century Club and of the Alpha Alpha |
---|
30 | 30 | | chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and as a ruling elder and Sunday school |
---|
31 | 31 | | teacher at Central Presbyterian Church; her support of her |
---|
32 | 32 | | community was honored in 2002 with her selection as the First Lady |
---|
33 | 33 | | of Waxahachie; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Mama T," Margaret Felty had |
---|
35 | 35 | | a way of making everyone feel special, and her optimism and kindness |
---|
36 | 36 | | inspired countless people; although she will be deeply missed, |
---|
37 | 37 | | memories of her will be forever cherished by all those who shared in |
---|
38 | 38 | | her love and friendship; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby honor the life of Margaret L. Felty and extend |

41 | 41 | | sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her children, |

42 | 42 | | Larry Felty and his wife, Glinda, Joe Felty and his wife, Jane, and |
