 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Edwin and Carol Farrar were named Waxahachie
 Outstanding Citizens of the Year for 2008 at the Waxahachie Chamber
 of Commerce annual banquet held February 26, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Residents of Ellis County for many years, Mr. and
 Mrs. Farrar have long devoted their time and energy to enhancing the
 quality of life in the city they call home; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Farrar graduated from the University of North
 Texas and went on to teach music; this talented musician performs as
 a flautist and pianist, and she serves her community as a member of
 the Ellis County Museum board and the Historic Depot Restoration
 Committee and as a judge for the symphony association's scholarship
 tryouts; and
 WHEREAS, A graduate of Waxahachie High School, Mr. Farrar
 attended Texas Christian University and later became a real estate
 agent; he has served on the Waxahachie City Council and his efforts
 were integral in securing the Superconducting Super Collider
 project for the city; in addition, he has shared his time with a
 number of organizations, including Historic Waxahachie, the
 Waxahachie High School Ex-Students Association board of directors,
 and the local Rotary Club, which he currently serves as president;
 and
 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Farrar are also active in the First
 United Methodist Church; she has served as the congregation's music
 director, and together they have worked on a number of church
 initiatives, including a successful fund-raising effort for a new
 pipe organ; other endeavors that have benefited from the couple's
 efforts are the Gingerbread Trail Tour of Homes, the Chautauqua
 Committee, and the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce; they have also
 recently completed two years as co-chairs of the Waxahachie
 Symphony Board; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Farrar's many accomplishments are a
 source of tremendous pride to their children, Louis, Eric, and
 David, as well as their three grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Edwin and Carol Farrar are involved community
 leaders; they set a notable example of service to which others may
 aspire, and they truly merit special recognition and praise; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to Edwin and Carol Farrar on being
 named Waxahachie Outstanding Citizens of the Year for 2008 and
 extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Farrar as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
