5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Edwin and Carol Farrar were named Waxahachie |

6 | 6 | | Outstanding Citizens of the Year for 2008 at the Waxahachie Chamber |
---|
7 | 7 | | of Commerce annual banquet held February 26, 2009; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Ellis County for many years, Mr. and |
---|
9 | 9 | | Mrs. Farrar have long devoted their time and energy to enhancing the |
---|
10 | 10 | | quality of life in the city they call home; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Farrar graduated from the University of North |
---|
12 | 12 | | Texas and went on to teach music; this talented musician performs as |
---|
13 | 13 | | a flautist and pianist, and she serves her community as a member of |
---|
14 | 14 | | the Ellis County Museum board and the Historic Depot Restoration |
---|
15 | 15 | | Committee and as a judge for the symphony association's scholarship |
---|
16 | 16 | | tryouts; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Waxahachie High School, Mr. Farrar |
---|
18 | 18 | | attended Texas Christian University and later became a real estate |
---|
19 | 19 | | agent; he has served on the Waxahachie City Council and his efforts |
---|
20 | 20 | | were integral in securing the Superconducting Super Collider |
---|
21 | 21 | | project for the city; in addition, he has shared his time with a |
---|
22 | 22 | | number of organizations, including Historic Waxahachie, the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Waxahachie High School Ex-Students Association board of directors, |
---|
24 | 24 | | and the local Rotary Club, which he currently serves as president; |
---|
25 | 25 | | and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Farrar are also active in the First |
---|
27 | 27 | | United Methodist Church; she has served as the congregation's music |
---|
28 | 28 | | director, and together they have worked on a number of church |
---|
29 | 29 | | initiatives, including a successful fund-raising effort for a new |
---|
30 | 30 | | pipe organ; other endeavors that have benefited from the couple's |
---|
31 | 31 | | efforts are the Gingerbread Trail Tour of Homes, the Chautauqua |
---|
32 | 32 | | Committee, and the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce; they have also |
---|
33 | 33 | | recently completed two years as co-chairs of the Waxahachie |
---|
34 | 34 | | Symphony Board; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Farrar's many accomplishments are a |
---|
36 | 36 | | source of tremendous pride to their children, Louis, Eric, and |
---|
37 | 37 | | David, as well as their three grandchildren; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Edwin and Carol Farrar are involved community |
---|
39 | 39 | | leaders; they set a notable example of service to which others may |
---|
40 | 40 | | aspire, and they truly merit special recognition and praise; now, |
---|
41 | 41 | | therefore, be it |

42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to Edwin and Carol Farrar on being |
---|
44 | 44 | | named Waxahachie Outstanding Citizens of the Year for 2008 and |

45 | 45 | | extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
