H.R. No. 2686
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Midlothian High School Pantherettes
distinguished themselves with outstanding performances at the 2009
ShowMakers of America Hawaiian Spring Fling National Dance/Drill
Competition, which took place at Brigham Young University-Hawaii in
Oahu on March 14, 2009; and
WHEREAS, In order to qualify for the event, the team advanced
through a variety of area and regional competitions, and when they
took the floor in Hawaii, they realized their potential by claiming
numerous awards; and
WHEREAS, The Pantherettes' team performances garnered the
Choreography Award in the jazz, lyrical, modern, and prop
categories, the Showmanship Award for jazz, prop, and modern, the
Precision Award for lyrical, prop, and modern, and the Technique
and Entertainment Awards for modern; in addition, the Midlothian
squad received Sweepstakes and Judges Awards and finished in first
place in the judging for Best in Class for medium teams; moreover,
the Pantherettes were named the Best in Category National Champions
in lyrical and modern and the National Line of Champions runner-up;
and
WHEREAS, In the officer competition, Midlothian was equally
impressive, taking Choreography, Technique, Precision, and
Showmanship Awards for all routines, Sweepstakes and Judges Awards,
and the Entertainment Award for the open category; the team was also
designated as the Best in Category National Champions for all
routines and finished in first place in the judging for the National
Line of Champions and for Best in Class for medium teams; and
WHEREAS, Individual members of the Pantherettes made their
mark, as well; Lauren Archibald, Amanda Feilke, and Breanne Wilson
were the trio national champions, Haleigh Stewart and Chelsie Watts
finished as first runner-up in the duet category, and Breanne
Wilson was second runner-up for the solo competition; and
WHEREAS, Ably guided by coach Laura Truett, the Midlothian
Pantherettes demonstrated exceptional poise and precision at the
ShowMakers national event, and they may take justifiable pride in
their noteworthy achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Midlothian High School
Pantherettes for their fine showing at the 2009 ShowMakers of
America Hawaiian Spring Fling National Dance/Drill Competition and
extend to the team members and Coach Truett sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
