| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | death of Laura Ellen McMahan of Waxahachie on April 2, 2009, at the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | age of 93; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of N. J. and Virginia Dunaway, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | former Laura Dunaway was born in Belcherville on June 20, 1915; she |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | married Harvey McMahan in 1937 and they became the parents of three |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | treasured children; the couple shared a fulfilling 43-year |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | relationship until his passing; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The McMahan family moved to Waxahachie in 1959, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Mrs. McMahan became a valued member of First United Methodist |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Church, where she worshipped for 48 years and gave of her time and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | talents to the United Methodist Women, the Joy Singers, and the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Fidelis Sunday school class; in 2007, she moved to Lewisville to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | live with one of her sons; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Thoughtful and compassionate, Mrs. McMahan served |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | communion at nursing homes and volunteered at Renfro Healthcare and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Pleasant Manor; she enjoyed spending time with her many dear |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | friends and with her family members, especially her beloved |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | grandchildren; in addition, she was an avid reader and followed |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | baseball closely, going over the sports page twice each day to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | ensure no detail escaped her notice; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Laura McMahan will be deeply missed, but those who |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | were privileged to share in her love and affection will forever |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | treasure their memories of time spent in her company; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Laura McMahan and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Harvey B. McMahan III and Charles McMahan and his wife, Connie; to |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | her daughter, Sue Hayes, and her husband, Bob; to her 10 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | grandchildren; to her 13 great-grandchildren; to her 2 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | great-great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and host of |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | friends; and, be it further |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 39 | 39 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Laura |
