| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Brian Iglesias of Edinburg has demonstrated |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | remarkable maturity in the year since a crisis befell his family; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In 2005, his mother, Yvonne Iglesias, was gravely |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | injured in a terrible car accident; her neck and back were broken, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and she remained in a coma for three months before waking to find |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | herself a paraplegic; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Iglesias was only 15 at the time, but he quickly |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | stepped into a new role, shouldering household duties and caring |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for his mother and siblings; despite these challenges, he continued |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to do well at Johnny Economedes High School and played defensive end |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | for the Jaguars football team; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In May 2008, Mr. Iglesias graduated from high |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | school, with his proud mother in attendance; more recently, he has |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | started a new chapter in his life as a kinesiology major at The |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | University of Texas-Pan American; his younger brother, Nelson, is |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | following in his footsteps as a "guardian angel" to the family; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Selfless and dedicated, Brian Iglesias has been a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | tremendous role model for his siblings and an inspiration to all who |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | know him; although he had to grow up far too quickly, he can take |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | great pride in all he has done to assist his family and to prepare |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | for the future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commend Brian Iglesias for his achievements and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | happiness; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
