5	5	WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
6	6	meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of
7	7	Jose Borrego of Edcouch, who passed away on January 17, 2009, at the
8	8	age of 60; and
9	9	WHEREAS, A native of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Mr.
10	10	Borrego was born on June 25, 1948, to Roberto and Elia Borrego; he
11	11	excelled academically and, after immigrating to the United States,
12	12	graduated in the top 10 of his class at Edcouch-Elsa High School; he
13	13	went on to earn dual bachelor's degrees in mathematics and Spanish,
14	14	as well as a master's degree in Spanish, from The University of
15	15	Texas--Pan American; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Mr. Borrego enjoyed a successful and challenging
17	17	career in education that included tenures as an assistant principal
18	18	with the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District,
19	19	assistant superintendent of Edcouch-Elsa ISD, and superintendent
20	20	of Monte Alto ISD; he served the youth of Hidalgo County with
21	21	dedication and insight, and in so doing, he earned the lasting
22	22	respect and admiration of teachers and students alike; in 2007, his
23	23	fellow citizens paid tribute to his efforts by naming a middle
24	24	school in his honor; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Borrego was a valued
26	26	member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and shared his time with the
27	27	Lions Club; and
28	28	WHEREAS, A man of great integrity, wisdom, and compassion,
29	29	Jose Borrego always took the time to help others, and he leaves
30	30	behind a legacy that will forever be treasured by all those who were
31	31	fortunate enough to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
32	32	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
33	33	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jose Borrego and
34	34	extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
35	35	Amelia Borrego; to his children, Melissa Pea and her husband,
36	36	Daniel, Melinda Borrego, and Marissa Salinas and her husband,
37	37	Mauricio; to his grandchildren, Natali Marie Pea, Stephanie Marie
38	38	Pea, Daniel Jesus Pea, and Manolo Andres Salinas; to his brothers
39	39	and sisters, Sandra Lopez and her husband, Augustin, Carlos
40	40	Borrego, Alfredo Borrego, Ricardo Borrego and his wife, Blanca, and
41	41	Jesus Mario Borrego and his wife, Juanita; and, be it further
42	42	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
43	43	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
44	44	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jose
45	45	Borrego.
