44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Roland
66 Glen Rogers of Waxahachie, who passed away on February 13, 2009, at
77 the age of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Waxahachie on February 5, 1927, to Steve and
99 Virgie Rogers, Roland Rogers graduated from Waxahachie High School
1010 and answered his nation's call to duty with service in the U.S. Army
1111 during World War II; he married the former Dorothy Boyd on December
1212 24, 1946, and the couple shared 62 rewarding years together and
1313 raised three children, Glenda, Vikki, and Alan; with the passing
1414 years, their family grew to include seven grandchildren and two
1515 great-grandchildren; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Rogers worked as internal manager and director
1717 of maintenance for the Texas Baptist Home for Children, and his
1818 career there spanned 31 years until his retirement; a longtime
1919 member of Farley Street Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and
2020 Sunday school teacher and sat on numerous committees, and in his
2121 free time he was an avid golfer and fisherman; and
2222 WHEREAS, Roland Rogers lived a caring and purposeful life,
2323 and though he will be greatly missed, he leaves his loved ones with
2424 a wealth of fond memories of the happy times they spent in his
2525 company; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2727 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roland Glen Rogers and
2828 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
2929 Dorothy Rogers; to his children, Glenda Pevehouse and her husband,
3030 Morris, Vikki Odom and her husband, Randy, and Alan Rogers and his
3131 wife, Suzanne; to his seven grandchildren and two
3232 great-grandchildren; to his sister, Margree Mitchell; to his
3333 sister-in-law, Ina Shireman; and to his other relatives and
3434 friends; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3636 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3737 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roland
3838 Rogers.
