5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, John Jones of Van Horn has ably served the people of |
---|
6 | 6 | | Culberson County for more than two decades, and he has demonstrated |
---|
7 | 7 | | a lasting commitment to improving his community; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, During his five terms as county commissioner, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Mr. Jones worked with his fellow commissioners to offer abatements |
---|
10 | 10 | | to bring the wind power industry to the county; the commissioners |
---|
11 | 11 | | established a hospital district and served as an interim board of |
---|
12 | 12 | | directors until they could hold elections for the district board; |
---|
13 | 13 | | Mr. Jones also collaborated with other leaders in Van Horn to create |
---|
14 | 14 | | a youth activity center, improve roads, and institute a |
---|
15 | 15 | | mosquito-control program; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan played a significant role in the |
---|
17 | 17 | | effort to obtain funding for courthouse renovations and helped |
---|
18 | 18 | | sheriffs in their efforts to keep the jail in compliance, purchase |
---|
19 | 19 | | new vehicles and radios, and expand communications capabilities; |
---|
20 | 20 | | during the 1990s, he demonstrated invaluable leadership in guiding |
---|
21 | 21 | | the county through financial turbulence following the closing of a |
---|
22 | 22 | | major industrial facility; moreover, he was instrumental in |
---|
23 | 23 | | procuring grant money for a tire disposal program that resulted in |
---|
24 | 24 | | the removal of more than 4,000 junk tires from the Van Horn area; |
---|
25 | 25 | | after leaving office, he generously consented to continue guiding |
---|
26 | 26 | | the cleanup in 2009, in view of the project's vital importance to |
---|
27 | 27 | | public health; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Mr. Jones currently |
---|
29 | 29 | | chairs the Culberson County Appraisal Board and serves as vice |
---|
30 | 30 | | chair of the Chihuahuan Desert Resource Conservation and |
---|
31 | 31 | | Development Area, Inc., and as general manager of the Culberson |
---|
32 | 32 | | County Groundwater Conservation District; in addition, he |
---|
33 | 33 | | previously served a term as a city alderman for Van Horn; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, John Jones has made a positive difference in |
---|
35 | 35 | | Culberson County through his numerous significant contributions to |
---|
36 | 36 | | civic life, and he can take justifiable pride in his exemplary |
---|
37 | 37 | | record of achievement; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby honor John Jones for his noteworthy public |
---|
40 | 40 | | service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
---|
41 | 41 | | success; and, be it further |
