5	5	WHEREAS, September 2010 marks the bicentennial of the
6	6	initiation of the Mexican revolution by Father Miguel Hidalgo y
7	7	Costilla, the father of Mexican independence and the namesake of
8	8	Hidalgo County; and
9	9	WHEREAS, On September 16, 1810, Father Hidalgo led several
10	10	hundred people in taking the prison in Dolores, Mexico, thus
11	11	launching the events that culminated in Mexican independence in
12	12	1821; the passionate speech the priest delivered on that day, the
13	13	Grito de Dolores, declaring "death to bad government," has since
14	14	become known as the "cry for Mexican independence"; and
15	15	WHEREAS, The year 2010 also marks the 158th anniversary of
16	16	the creation of Hidalgo County and the convening, on September 2,
17	17	1852, of its first county court; and
18	18	WHEREAS, The 200th anniversary of the beginning of the
19	19	Mexican War for Independence represents a fitting opportunity to
20	20	celebrate the heroism and patriotism of Father Hidalgo, as well as
21	21	the inextricable links between the histories of Mexico and Texas;
22	22	now, therefore, be it
23	23	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
24	24	Legislature hereby recognize the bicentennial in 2010 of the Grito
25	25	de Dolores and celebrate the continuing inspiration of Father
26	26	Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla.
