No. 2724 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Sharon Carr of El Paso was honored with a Platinum Star Award from the University of North Texas Department of Library and Information Sciences on April 2, 2009; and WHEREAS, Presented by the department's alumni society, the Platinum Star Awards recognize distinguished UNT alumni for outstanding professional achievement and service to their communities; the awards were presented in conjunction with the celebration of the department's 70th anniversary in 2009; and WHEREAS, Sharon Carr earned her bachelor's degree from UNT in 1964, and she received her master's degree in library science from the university in 1989; she worked as an elementary school librarian in El Paso for 17 years before assuming her current role as library learning resources administrator for the El Paso Independent School District; in 2005, she was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for a term to expire in 2011; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to her chosen field, Ms. Carr is a member of the Border Regional Library Association, the Texas Association of School Library Administrators, and the Texas Library Association, and she has served on the Texas State Library and Archives Commission School Library Standards Advisory Committee, which is responsible for drafting statewide school library standards; and WHEREAS, Sharon Carr has been an invaluable asset to school libraries in El Paso and to libraries across the Lone Star State, and this award justly acknowledges her myriad contributions to her profession; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Sharon Carr for receiving a Platinum Star Award from the University of North Texas Department of Library and Information Sciences and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Carr as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
