| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sharon Carr of El Paso was honored with a Platinum |

| 6 | 6 | | Star Award from the University of North Texas Department of Library |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and Information Sciences on April 2, 2009; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Presented by the department's alumni society, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Platinum Star Awards recognize distinguished UNT alumni for |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | outstanding professional achievement and service to their |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | communities; the awards were presented in conjunction with the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | celebration of the department's 70th anniversary in 2009; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Sharon Carr earned her bachelor's degree from UNT in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1964, and she received her master's degree in library science from |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the university in 1989; she worked as an elementary school |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | librarian in El Paso for 17 years before assuming her current role |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | as library learning resources administrator for the El Paso |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Independent School District; in 2005, she was appointed by Governor |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Rick Perry to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | term to expire in 2011; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to her chosen field, Ms. Carr is a member |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of the Border Regional Library Association, the Texas Association |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of School Library Administrators, and the Texas Library |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Association, and she has served on the Texas State Library and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Archives Commission School Library Standards Advisory Committee, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | which is responsible for drafting statewide school library |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | standards; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Sharon Carr has been an invaluable asset to school |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | libraries in El Paso and to libraries across the Lone Star State, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and this award justly acknowledges her myriad contributions to her |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | profession; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sharon Carr for receiving a |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Platinum Star Award from the University of North Texas Department |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | of Library and Information Sciences and extend to her sincere best |
