81R36355 JGH-F By: Riddle H.R. No. 2726 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to honor Fiona Prendergast for her outstanding work as an intern in the office of State Representative Debbie Riddle; and WHEREAS, Transplanted to the Lone Star State from the United Kingdom, Fiona Prendergast has long enjoyed, or endured, depending on your point of view, the curiosity of strangers who hear her accent and immediately ask her where she's from, to which she always replies, "The Woodlands"; nevertheless, she remains adamant about the proper use of a British accent, and never misses an opportunity to malign Dick Van Dyke for his bad Cockney accent in Mary Poppins; and WHEREAS, Ms. Prendergast apparently has no problem with Julie Andrews, however, since The Sound of Music is her favorite movie, and she has proposed to reenact a musical number from the film on Sine Die; her own accent is charmingly on display whenever she starts to hold forth on the subject of tomatoes and the moral turpitude of people who pick the fruit off of their food yet gleefully ingest it in the form of ketchup or salsa; no one else in the office knows what she's talking about, of course, because she says "to-mah-to," and they say "to-may-to"; and WHEREAS, Despite a solitary schedule that has led other interns to suggest that the British intern who can't keep shoes on her feet, loves food from McDonald's, and laughs til she cries might not actually exist, Fiona Prendergast has nevertheless mesmerized all those who have had the pleasure of meeting her with her keen intelligence and razor-sharp wit, and it is most fitting to recognize her for a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend Fiona Prendergast for her service as an intern in the office of State Representative Debbie Riddle and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Prendergast as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
