5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to |

6 | 6 | | honor Fiona Prendergast for her outstanding work as an intern in the |

7 | 7 | | office of State Representative Debbie Riddle; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Transplanted to the Lone Star State from the United |
---|
9 | 9 | | Kingdom, Fiona Prendergast has long enjoyed, or endured, depending |
---|
10 | 10 | | on your point of view, the curiosity of strangers who hear her |
---|
11 | 11 | | accent and immediately ask her where she's from, to which she always |
---|
12 | 12 | | replies, "The Woodlands"; nevertheless, she remains adamant about |
---|
13 | 13 | | the proper use of a British accent, and never misses an opportunity |
---|
14 | 14 | | to malign Dick Van Dyke for his bad Cockney accent in Mary Poppins; |

---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Prendergast apparently has no problem with Julie |
---|
17 | 17 | | Andrews, however, since The Sound of Music is her favorite movie, |

18 | 18 | | and she has proposed to reenact a musical number from the film on |
---|
19 | 19 | | Sine Die; her own accent is charmingly on display whenever she |
---|
20 | 20 | | starts to hold forth on the subject of tomatoes and the moral |
---|
21 | 21 | | turpitude of people who pick the fruit off of their food yet |
---|
22 | 22 | | gleefully ingest it in the form of ketchup or salsa; no one else in |
---|
23 | 23 | | the office knows what she's talking about, of course, because she |
---|
24 | 24 | | says "to-mah-to," and they say "to-may-to"; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Despite a solitary schedule that has led other |
---|
26 | 26 | | interns to suggest that the British intern who can't keep shoes on |
---|
27 | 27 | | her feet, loves food from McDonald's, and laughs til she cries might |
---|
28 | 28 | | not actually exist, Fiona Prendergast has nevertheless mesmerized |
---|
29 | 29 | | all those who have had the pleasure of meeting her with her keen |
---|
30 | 30 | | intelligence and razor-sharp wit, and it is most fitting to |
---|
31 | 31 | | recognize her for a job well done; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby commend Fiona Prendergast for her service as an |
---|
34 | 34 | | intern in the office of State Representative Debbie Riddle and |

35 | 35 | | extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
