 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Friends and family were greatly saddened by the loss
 of Hobbs Williams of Hawkins, who passed away on April 22, 2009, at
 the age of 85; and
 WHEREAS, Born on September 2, 1923, in Sulphur Springs, Hobbs
 Williams was the son of Byron and Lorena Williams; he attended The
 University of Texas on a baseball scholarship and had the
 opportunity to play in the inaugural College World Series, where he
 helped his team by hitting a grand-slam home run; his college
 studies were interrupted by service as a bombardier in the U.S. Army
 Air Forces during World War II, but he returned to UT to earn a
 bachelor's degree in 1948 and a master's degree in education the
 following year; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Williams married the former Doris Carolyn Dietze
 in 1947, and the couple later moved to Kerens; in 1956, they both
 accepted teaching positions in the Grand Prairie Independent School
 District; Mr. Williams went on to spend 30 years with the district,
 retiring as its superintendent in 1986; his exceptional career was
 recognized by Grand Prairie ISD in 2008, when Hobbs Williams
 Elementary was named in his honor; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan moved to Hawkins with his wife
 shortly after his retirement, and he became an active member of
 First United Methodist Church, the Hawkins Chamber of Commerce, the
 Veterans Memorial Association, and the Lake Hawkins Homeowners
 Association; and
 WHEREAS, Hobbs Williams was a man of great skill and
 dedication, and his legacy of service to his country, to his family,
 and to students in the Grand Prairie community will long resonate
 with those who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hobbs Williams and
 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 Doris Carolyn Williams; to his children, Byron Leroy Williams and
 Linda Crabtree and her husband, Bill; and to his other relatives and
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hobbs
 Williams.
