| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, On February 24, 2009, proud residents of Waco are |

| 7 | 7 | | visiting Austin to celebrate Waco Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Located on the banks of the Bosque and Brazos Rivers |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in the heart of Texas, Waco is blessed with an abundance of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | resources, including natural springs and fertile soil; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The city is the county seat of McLennan County and a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | center for academics; home to Texas State Technical College, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | McLennan Community College, and Baylor University, the oldest |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | university in the state and the largest Baptist university in the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | world, Waco makes an invaluable contribution to the Lone Star State |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | by so ably supporting our next generation of leaders; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Among the city's myriad distinctions are Lake Waco, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the largest municipal lake in the state, the Texas Rangers Hall of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Fame and Museum, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, the historic |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Hippodrome Theater, and the Dr Pepper Museum & Free Enterprise |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Institute; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, One of Waco's earliest landmarks is still among its |

| 23 | 23 | | most famous: the Suspension Bridge, designed by the company that |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | later built the Brooklyn Bridge, has been preserved and is now |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | flanked by beautiful parks; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Citizens of Waco are making important economic, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | educational, and cultural contributions to Texas while maintaining |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the attractive qualities that make our best small cities such |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | desirable places to live, work, and raise a family, and it is indeed |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | fitting to take this opportunity to honor them; now, therefore, be |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 24, 2009, as Waco Day at the |
