| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Elliott Becker Lunson was named the Distinguished |

| 6 | 6 | | Artist of 2009 by the Arts Assembly of Midland at its annual |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Celebration of the Arts; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Elliott Lunson's early artistic impulses were |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | inspired and encouraged by his mother, Jane Becker, who has taught |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | art at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Midland |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | College, and Robert E. Lee High School; his talent, which was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | already evident during those early years, was recognized by his art |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | teachers and professors as well; after graduating from Lee High |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | School, he studied art at Midland College and earned a bachelor's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | degree from UTPB in 2004; he later became an art teacher at Trinity |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | School of Midland; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This promising young artist has made a name for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | himself in both the Midland-Odessa and Hudson, New York arts |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | communities; though he creates ceramic pieces and sculpture, his |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | favorite medium is oils, and he is known for taking on classical |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | topics and presenting them in contemporary ways; two of his works, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | "Stretched" and "Jesus & Buddha," were honored with an Award of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Merit and a Best in Show designation, respectively, at the Midland |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Arts Association-Midland College Fall 2008 Juried Art Show; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | "Stretched," a panoramic self-portrait, was included in a 2009 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | emerging artist exhibition at the Limner Gallery in Hudson, and it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | was also featured on the cover of the Midland College literary |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | publication Tableau and in Direct Art magazine; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lunson draws strength from the love and support |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of his wife and fellow artist, Amanda Giddens, as well as from his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | sons, Trenton and Ryan; he also enjoys playing the piano, guitar, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | drums, and bass guitar; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Elliot Lunson has demonstrated skill, creativity, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | and dedication in his work as an artist, and he has garnered the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | respect and admiration of countless art enthusiasts in Midland and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | beyond; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Elliott Becker Lunson on his |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | receipt of the 2009 Distinguished Artist award from the Arts |

| 40 | 40 | | Assembly of Midland and extend to him sincere best wishes for |

| 41 | 41 | | continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
