5	5	WHEREAS, Rebekah Powers of Midland Memorial Hospital has been
6	6	honored with the 2009 Belinda E. Puetz Award from the National
7	7	Nursing Staff Development Organization; and
8	8	WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is given to individuals who
9	9	display creativity in their approach to staff development or
10	10	continuing education and who demonstrate exceptional abilities in
11	11	leadership and efficiency while working to improve patient care;
12	12	and
13	13	WHEREAS, Ms. Powers is the director of professional practice,
14	14	education, and research at the hospital and has completed a number
15	15	of degree programs in her field; she earned her nursing license and
16	16	associate's degree in Illinois and holds a bachelor's degree in
17	17	humanities from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin; in
18	18	2008, she completed a master's degree in nursing and is currently
19	19	pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice at Rocky Mountain
20	20	University of Health Professions in Utah; and
21	21	WHEREAS, This seasoned professional draws on two decades of
22	22	nursing experience and has numerous responsibilities at the
23	23	hospital, including supervising the education department and
24	24	overseeing initiatives that deal with improving clinical and
25	25	diabetes care; she has created and implemented several innovative
26	26	employee development programs and has been especially active in
27	27	efforts to encourage members of the nursing staff to further their
28	28	educations; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Dedicated to her colleagues and to maintaining
30	30	Midland Memorial's reputation for excellent health care, Rebekah
31	31	Powers has distinguished herself in her work at the hospital, and
32	32	this award justly recognizes her valuable contributions; now,
33	33	therefore, be it
34	34	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
35	35	Legislature hereby congratulate Rebekah Powers on her receipt of
36	36	the 2009 Belinda E. Puetz Award and extend to her sincere best
37	37	wishes for continued success; and, be it further
38	38	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
39	39	prepared for Ms. Powers as an expression of high regard by the Texas
40	40	House of Representatives.
