| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Gordon Morris retired as the sheriff of Lampasas |

| 6 | 6 | | County in 2008, drawing to a close a notable career in law |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | enforcement that spanned 35 years; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of West Texas, Mr. Morris started his |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | career as a peace officer in Arizona, working as a patrolman for the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Wilcox Police Department from February 1973 to June 1974; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Morris then returned to Texas, where he worked |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | briefly for the Midland Sheriff's Office before serving with the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Highland Park Police Department from September 1974 to May 1975; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In June of 1975, Mr. Morris joined the Lampasas |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | County Sheriff's Office and was appointed as a justice of the peace |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | three years later; his tenure as the county's chief law enforcement |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | officer began in 1980, when he was appointed to complete the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | unexpired term of the previously elected sheriff; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, This respected professional went on to serve seven |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | terms as the Lampasas County sheriff; voters repeatedly returned |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | him to office over the course of nearly three decades, which is a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | testament to the high regard in which he is held by his fellow |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | citizens; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, For 29 years, Sheriff Morris dedicated himself to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | preserving the safety and security of the people of Lampasas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | County, earning the admiration of his colleagues and his community, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many exceptional |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sheriff Gordon Morris on his |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | retirement from the Lampasas County Sheriff's Office and extend to |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | him sincere best wishes for his continued success and happiness; |
