44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Texas Wesleyan University School of Law is
66 celebrating the 20th anniversary of its founding in 2009, and this
77 milestone is indeed deserving of legislative recognition; and
88 WHEREAS, Established as the Dallas/Fort Worth School of Law
99 in 1989 and originally located in Irving, the school affiliated
1010 with Texas Wesleyan in 1992; in 1997, the school moved to its
1111 present quarters in downtown Fort Worth, where it benefits from its
1212 proximity to the legal community and state and federal courts, and
1313 in 1999 it received full approval from the American Bar
1414 Association; and
1515 WHEREAS, The law school offers a flexible course schedule
1616 that accommodates both full-time and part-time evening students;
1717 those attending Texas Wesleyan have ample opportunity to explore
1818 their areas of interest and to network with others through the
1919 school's many student organizations and through programs such as
2020 the school's law clinic, which handles matters ranging from family
2121 law and children's issues to social security and SSI disability;
2222 Texas Wesleyan is also one of the few ABA-approved law schools in
2323 the country that expect their students to complete a pro bono
2424 requirement in order to graduate; and
2525 WHEREAS, So well prepared are Texas Wesleyan students that
2626 this institution regularly posts a bar passage rate that is among
2727 the highest of the state's nine law schools; moreover, in a 2003
2828 Texas Lawyer magazine survey, the faculty of the law school ranked
2929 first in accessibility and classroom instruction; since the fall of
3030 2008, the law school has been guided by Dean Frederic White, a
3131 highly regarded leader whose vision and experience will be
3232 invaluable to the school in the years ahead; and
3333 WHEREAS, Committed to excellence in serving its diverse
3434 student body, the legal profession, and the surrounding community,
3535 the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law is making an
3636 immeasurable contribution to the Lone Star State, and it is a
3737 privilege to join in celebrating this special occasion in its proud
3838 history; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding
4141 of the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law and extend to all
4242 those associated with the school sincere best wishes for continued
4343 success in all their endeavors; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for the School of Law as an expression of high regard by
4646 the Texas House of Representatives.
