| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Wesleyan University School of Law is |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | celebrating the 20th anniversary of its founding in 2009, and this |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | milestone is indeed deserving of legislative recognition; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established as the Dallas/Fort Worth School of Law |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in 1989 and originally located in Irving, the school affiliated |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | with Texas Wesleyan in 1992; in 1997, the school moved to its |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | present quarters in downtown Fort Worth, where it benefits from its |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | proximity to the legal community and state and federal courts, and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in 1999 it received full approval from the American Bar |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The law school offers a flexible course schedule |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | that accommodates both full-time and part-time evening students; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | those attending Texas Wesleyan have ample opportunity to explore |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | their areas of interest and to network with others through the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | school's many student organizations and through programs such as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the school's law clinic, which handles matters ranging from family |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | law and children's issues to social security and SSI disability; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Texas Wesleyan is also one of the few ABA-approved law schools in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the country that expect their students to complete a pro bono |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | requirement in order to graduate; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, So well prepared are Texas Wesleyan students that |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | this institution regularly posts a bar passage rate that is among |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the highest of the state's nine law schools; moreover, in a 2003 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Texas Lawyer magazine survey, the faculty of the law school ranked |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | first in accessibility and classroom instruction; since the fall of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 2008, the law school has been guided by Dean Frederic White, a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | highly regarded leader whose vision and experience will be |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | invaluable to the school in the years ahead; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Committed to excellence in serving its diverse |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | student body, the legal profession, and the surrounding community, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law is making an |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | immeasurable contribution to the Lone Star State, and it is a |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | privilege to join in celebrating this special occasion in its proud |

| 38 | 38 | | history; now, therefore, be it |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding |

| 41 | 41 | | of the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law and extend to all |

| 42 | 42 | | those associated with the school sincere best wishes for continued |

| 43 | 43 | | success in all their endeavors; and, be it further |
