| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Corrinner McWhorter of Silsbee celebrated her 100th |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | birthday on May 2, 2009, and her long and productive life is an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | inspiration to her family members, friends, and former students; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Mrs. McWhorter was |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | born in New Waverly in 1909 and graduated from Dayton High School in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1927; she went on to study and teach at Port Arthur Business |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | College; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She married Ira W. McWhorter, and together they |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | lovingly raised a family; the couple settled in Silsbee, where she |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | established the town's first private kindergarten and helped to do |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the same in the African American community; she continued to teach |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | at All Faiths Day School, imparting her love of learning to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | countless children before her retirement at the age of 88; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. McWhorter served as president of the local PTA, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | a Camp Fire leader, and head of the children's group at her church; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | for her outstanding work in behalf of her fellow residents, she was |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | honored with an Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award from the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | chamber of commerce; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A cherished member of her family and community, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Corrinner McWhorter has brought great joy and happiness into the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | lives of many, and she has earned a special place in the hearts of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | all who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Corrinner McWhorter on her 100th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |

| 31 | 31 | | happiness; and, be it further |
