5	5	WHEREAS, The Conroe High School Band has been selected to
6	6	march in the 121st Rose Parade at the Tournament of Roses on January
7	7	1, 2010, and this talented organization is a source of great pride
8	8	for its city and the Lone Star State; and
9	9	WHEREAS, The history of the Conroe Tiger Band dates back to
10	10	1929, when the ensemble was transformed from an orchestra into a
11	11	show band; the group was among the first of its kind in Texas to
12	12	march parade style on the football field, as well as to form letters
13	13	and symbols and to use the field's yard lines to accurately measure
14	14	the band's step size while performing; throughout the past eight
15	15	decades, the Conroe Tiger Band has adopted the contemporary free
16	16	form style, and it has received hundreds of commendations;
17	17	performing its celebrated anthems and more, the band has continued
18	18	to grow in popularity and now reaches audiences on national
19	19	television, at professional football games, and at state and
20	20	national events; and
21	21	WHEREAS, Bobby W. Heathcock has led the Conroe Tiger Band
22	22	since 2002; a graduate of the University of Houston, Mr. Heathcock
23	23	has been honored many times during his career, and he is the
24	24	recipient of the Houston Mayor's Educational Excellence Award; he
25	25	has directed the band's performances at the Sugar Bowl, the
26	26	Disneyland Night of Stars Parade, and the Orange Bowl; in addition,
27	27	he has helped the Tigers win a number of UIL Regional Marching Band
28	28	Contest 1st Division awards and TCGC Texas Divisional State
29	29	Championship awards for color guard and drum line; this unstoppable
30	30	team has also been named a Sam Houston State University Marching
31	31	Contest Divisional Champion and a Lone Star Preview Marching
32	32	Contest Finalist; under the able direction of Mr. Heathcock and his
33	33	assistants, Dawn Martinez and Frank Chambers, 210 students are
34	34	poised to bring further distinction to Conroe High School as the
35	35	only band from Texas to be performing before millions of spectators
36	36	at next year's Tournament of Roses Parade; and
37	37	WHEREAS, The Conroe Tiger Band was selected to participate in
38	38	"America's New Year's Celebration" based on the exceptional music
39	39	and performance skills of its members, and as they travel to
40	40	Pasadena, California, for this extraordinary opportunity, they
41	41	take with them the enthusiastic support of their fellow Texans;
42	42	now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
44	44	Legislature hereby congratulate the Conroe High School Band on its
45	45	selection to participate in the Tournament of Roses 121st Rose
46	46	Parade and that all those affiliated with the group be extended
47	47	sincere best wishes for a memorable and successful experience; and,
48	48	be it further
49	49	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
50	50	prepared for the Conroe Tiger Band as an expression of high regard
51	51	by the Texas House of Representatives.
