| 6 | 6 | | has contributed significantly to the cultural vitality of Central |

| 7 | 7 | | Texas for more than 10 years; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Cine Las Americas began in 1997 as a Cuban film |

| 9 | 9 | | retrospective sponsored by the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin; the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | program's success led to the presentation of the Cine Las Americas |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | International Film Festival the following year; sponsored by the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | local Latino community with support from the City of Austin and the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Texas Commission on the Arts, the festival showcased motion |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | pictures by and about Latinos, from all over the Americas; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today, the CLA International Film Festival |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | continues to thrive, exhibiting an average of 100 films annually |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | from across Texas, the United States, and Latin America during a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | nine-day event held every April; films are also shown throughout |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the year in collaboration with other venues, such as the Museum of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Fine Arts in Houston and the South by Southwest Film Conference and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Festival; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In addition to showing and promoting Latin and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | indigenous film and video, CLA is actively engaged in bilingual |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | media arts education for minority youth; it sponsors Emergencia, an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | international youth film competition for high school students and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | BeatLab, a digital music creation program for students in the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Austin Independent School District, in which professional |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | musicians help students explore their creativity and talent through |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | technology and music; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, This unique nonprofit institution has embraced its |

| 31 | 31 | | mission to educate, entertain, and challenge individuals through |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | film and the media arts, and in so doing, it has promoted greater |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | cross-cultural understanding and appreciation; now, therefore, be |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
